A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

OK got it apart. The secondary drive was full of black water......... yes water and dirt
WTH? Dont ask me... that is just something I never check because I assumed that the crank case oil lubricated the drive shaft. Well, that sucks. But at least I didnt destroy anything and my bro is OK.

So I need a secondary drive assembly for 850-1100 shafty... anybody?

Clean it out as good as you can. Long Hemostats and rags maybe to swab as much crap out as you can??? Put a new oring on the unit when you install it. Rcheap lesson to learn all things considered bro!!

I actually have one of those in my parts I'm never going to use collection.

For an '82 1100G.

Here is the maintenance schedule for the GS1100. Highlighted the oil change and also valve adjustment, because so many people neglect this.

if I take oil change as being right i'll be doing a oil change and filter (engine) weekly after each ride. is this the same for the 1000 chain drive ?
going to get costly to run

That's what I was thinking, too. :-k

I thought I was riding a lot when I did 27,000 in a year, several years ago. :o

3500 a week is 182,000 per year.

.

I read that as engine and filter change/ replace every 1000 k which I will be doing with ease weekly once able to ride again

I take R as replace C to clean A to adjust I to inspect and T to tighten ?

Engine oil and filter every 600 miles/1000k or 2 monthly which ever comes first and on going every 1000k etc

Engine oil should be changed at 600 miles with a new bike, then every 3500 miles thereafter. This is the same interval that the valves should be checked. Failure to perform maintenance like this will result in engine damage so follow the book.

Big brother it sucks you had the secondary go but I wanted to thank you for posting on it. I just drained and refilled mine and while there was no metal shards the oil in it and the rear hub was beyond disgusting. So by your hard lesson the rest of us may be saved.
