A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anybody know of anything I can pour into my carbs to clean them up of old enleaded petrol to save stripping and cleaning?

Thanks. Jim [Manchester UK]

If they are that bad  I'm pretty sure you are going to have to pull, disassemble and clean them really good. You probably have got clogged jets and passages that can't be cleaned using "pour into the gas tank" additives. There was a earlier topic on this subject that dealt with a product that is supposed to clean the carbs without disassembly.

None of the "Pour into the tank" additives are going to help you if the bike isn't running. Your gonna have to pull em and clean em or pay to have someone do it for you. If you have any ability mechanically then the carb cleaning section on this site is the way to go.

Yup, what the others said. Sounds like a tear-down to me. When you get it running, but you are not sure if its quite right, I have used a product called "Ring Free" that Yamaha sells/distributes. Was recommended to me by mechanics and also to another friend of mine. I found a '81 850G a couple years ago sitting in neighbors garage that he wanted to get rid of. The bike had sat for at least 5 years and looked it. I got one cylinder to fire all the time and a second to fire intermittantly. Had old gas all that time, and had gummed up everything. Tore all apart and rebuilt with carb kits and alot of cleaning. Also had access to compressed nitrogen to blow things out/clean. After rebuild, used "Ring Free" product just to be sure-supposed to clear any sticky problems with rings-hence the name. Anyway, everything works great! Good Luck and ride safe!
