I've just installed a new stator on my 1100G. The PO replaced the R/R but didn't ground it properly. Probably the reason the stator went out. I suspect the R/R is bad because the rubber insulation around the ground lead where all the wires exit the R/R shows signs of having overheated. My question is; now that I have properly grounded the r/r, can I damage the new stator if the r/r is indeed bad? FWIW, I was getting a little less than 12V at idle and a max of 13 @5k. The results of the "Stator Paper" tests showed that one leg of the stator wasn't putting out enough voltage. The other 2 legs were slightly over 50V if I remember correctly. So, in a sense, the r/r was working but that melted insulation bothers me.
