Band/Gixer Conversion (week 2)

Nice work so far. That's definitely going to handle amazingly compared to stock. It'll be interesting to see the whole thing put together, hopefully without one of those whale tails.

A difference of 6.3 mm or .2500", this is crucial when converting to a 180 rear.

Well ive doen more than a few of these conversions & dissagree as ive always used DID 530 chains with no problems, not knocking it as it works for you but as ive said its not essensial to change over

cheers tone[/quote]
Tone,
I agree the 520 set up is not necessary, but either way your swapping out parts, it only seems logical to give yourself as much room as possible. The only cost difference is the 520 chain, its 30 bucks more than the 530. I think more than anything it really cleans and tightens everything up.

I think I'd like as much wiggle room as possible and a 520 chain with less mass is even cooler. Guess I have a gs1100 530 chain and sprocket conversion with 2500 miles on it available if anyone wants!

On another note, J: that top triple is aftermarket from Spiegel right? It cost a pretty penny? I think I've seen them for close to $300! Nice setup though.

Josh

Josh,
The top triple is an ABM, believe it or not I picked it up on ebay for $170.00, best thing about it is that it addresses the riser issue.

1100

How's the 1100 coming along?
Waiting on the gauge bracket and rear set plates that are being made at a local machine shop. Ordered the headlight bracket also...geez there not cheap!!
As soon as I get everything mounted and wired I should at least have it up and running. Also have to mount the rear master. The frame will need painting as well but I'll probably wait and tear down after I am through banging and cussing and have worked out all the kinks. Needs tires also. Thinking real seriuos about some flat slide carbs..

What tires do you have in mind? Of all the sportbike radials (Michelin, Pirelli, and Bridgestone) I've tried on the GS the Michelin Pilot Powers were the hands down favorites for grip, longevity, and especially handling.

What's your gauge bracket look like? Do you have a drawing or sketch?

Yeah I have a buddy who has some Michelin powers on his Gixxer and he swears by them..I was thinking 180 Pirelli's to save some width inside the swinger but honestly havn't decided yet. I currently have Bridgestones on it. I don't have a pic of the gauge bracket yet and the drawings are pretty rough but the rear sets plates are identical to Isleoman's. I went with ZX12R rear sets also.

One other thing I would like to recommend to a FANTASIC job you are doing is to change out the front master you have on there now to a GSXR master with a remote reservoir. That will enabe you to add fluid much easier than with the master that's on there now. PLUS, they are WAAAYYYY lighter! I was also going to suggest you try drag bars but I see you beat me to it! The drag bars look good & I think you will find they feel "right" on your bike. Great work, keep the pics coming. If you ever decide to do the motor let me know & I'll help however I can. Ray.

When I first saw the triple with the risers on it with the other bars I was thinking "Man, that is UGLY!" I'm really glad you went to the drag bars & think they look awesome on there. I hope you like the feel of them as much as I do! Ray.

Your 1100 is the bees-knees! Looking great! Jealous of your weather, my grass is covered in snow at the moment... :P

If you like Pirellis, Cycle Gear has a set of 120/180 Diablos on sale for $180 plus shipping which is $100 off...

Thats the plan as of now, I purchased a set of 83's to get the 140 speedo should have a bracket to mount to the triples this week. I think you can buy the triples for around $300...yeah I know kinda pricey!

Pardon my ignorance, but what's ABM? Is it a manufacturer? I may need something similar for my planned future mod.

The bike looks fantastic, BTW.

Thanks.
