A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey guys i have a gs550 motor from a 1980s bike installed on my 1968 triumph frame. Im trying to wire it up now to start and im wondering if someone could tell me the bare minimum wires i need to get it to run with a
Kick start. Thanks gents.

The 1980's era 550's all have electric start. Those bikes also have electronic ignition. As long as you are powering the spark the bike should run. Of course, most people would prefer a charging system too, and that electric starter too since bump starting is tiring. A 1977 - 1979 550 has points and kick start. You could get away with less wiring on those bikes.

Oh okay then I must have a '77 - 79 as mine definately has kickstart....

You simply need to power the coils/points and the bike will run. A few more thing to consider are an ignition switch, head lamp, charging system, and turn signals.

Okay so now I realized the motor I bought had the DynaS ignition I vaguely remembering the guy telling me that when I bought it aswell. So I have the ignition all wired up now as per the DynaS instructions... I have the ignition wired up aswell as pulled my switched 12v from the switch on the drivers side handle. Im assuming I need a battery to start the motor aswell seeing as though the engine needs +12 for the coils to fire??

Just a chance, but?

Just a chance, but?

Did I hear that Brit bikes are wired with POSITIVE as ground?
Hope you check that before you go live.
Bill

Is that switch not a good one to take power from?? Im confused now...
