A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have an 83' gs750e and i just put a new r/r and a new battery in it. It worked fine for 2 months but now i have to put the battery on the charger every few days. When the old r/r went i took it in to a shop and had everthing electrial tested and found that it was only the r/r that was bad. What is causing my battery not to charge? Can i upgrade my system for better charge? If so, what parts would you suggest?

Are you checking your battery every few days and filling it up with distilled water only? Is your ground by the battery box staying clean.I have to top off my battery every time I fill up ,about every 3 days.Doing a lot of short trips at low speeds will have an effect on your battery not charging well.

the battery is brand new but yes i am checking the distilled water every couple of days and its fine. anything else?

are you sure you have the right battery?where did you get your battery. Is it a YB10L-A2.Did you clean all the connections?Take it to an auto parts store and have them do a load test on it. Its possible you could have a bad battery.

It's either the r/r or the alternator, since you replaced the first I suspect the latter.

Steps to take to isolate your electrical problems

Steps to take to isolate your electrical problems

1) Put a multi-meter on the battery and run the engine at 5000rpm.
If you're getting 14V(I'm getting 14.5V) than your charging system is good. Your battery is your problem. If it's less than 14V (mine used to be 13.3V) than it's either your R/R ,your Stator or a short/poor connection.2) Test your Stator first. (GS Resources has the testing procedure)
3) test your R/R (Electrosport.com has a two page diode test that you can perform on the R/R that's very fast and simple-ask them to email/fax it to you-I asked them to put it on their website) If that passes then ...
4) The guys at Electrosport(Oceanside,CA) told me to wire the R/R directly to the battery. That means the black wire off the R/R goes right to the ground on the battery and the red wire goes directly to the hot side of the battery. Then connect the stator wires (3 yellow) to the R/R. If this works and gives you 14V on the battery then you know you have a shorted wire. You can fix the short or as I did just leave the R/R connected directly to the battery.
