DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My 81 GS850 G gets used for primarily shorter trips of 10 miles or less. I've been checked the battery fluid level monthly, and putting it on Tender Jr also once a month. The battery is a standard wet cell, nothing fancy. When I put it on the tender it takes about 18 hours to be fully charged. Before I charge it up, it spins the motor normally, and starts it within a second or two. Is my charging system going south, or is this typical of the GS's. The bike is a low mileage (6K) one that was stored for over 28 years before I brought it back to life. Thanks, tommyturbo2

Do a "Quick Test" and report the results here after recharging your battery.

Then why are you putting it on a charger?

Do what Pos says, he's the man when it coms to charging systems. I'm just curious why you would charge it at all.

I think....

he has a fully charged battery, and everything is good, but after riding short distances for a month it drains the battery, so he hooks it up to a battery charger, this takes 18 hours and once again he is good for a month, until the battery is dead and he has to start all over again.....

if so......

check your charging system, it should be charging your battery each and everytime your out on the bike, assuming your rpss are higher than idle as you ride.....

.

Except he said, "Before I charge it up, it spins the motor normally, and starts it within a second or two."

Isn't that what it's supposed to do?

yes....

so I assumed it works up until it craps out and then he has to charge it again.

hey I am no mind reader....LOL

:D

just trying to interpert his writings....

Posplayr: Thanks for the info, I'll run thru the quick check this weekend. tturbo2

Hi all out there,
what should the voltage be across the battery terminals when the bike ('80 GS850g) is running? I've tested my bike with my trusty "Avo"meter and it shows 12.5v engine running and 12v with engine off, is this sufficient to charge the battery?

Refer to the "Quick Test" description with diagnostics in my signature.

And if you have other issues you should start your own thread for them.
