    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Thinking of buying a Battery Tender. They are on sale locally here in my town.
Has anyone ever used one or own one? They claim to charge the battery up and then cut off, then only come back on occasionally to keep the voltage and charge up and etc..

Are they safe, I mean to stick it on the battery and then walk away for weeks at a time during the winter storage?

I bought my battery tender some years ago, and has been very effective. As I write this, my Hybrid GK is sitting in the garage with the battery tender hooked on. The left sidecover is off, the leads are bolted on to the battery, and I can easily disconnect them from the tender. I know that the next time I push the starter button, the motor will turn quickly and the engine will catch right away (after priming the carbs, of course...)

I have a spare battery which is on the tender any time I don't have it hooked onto the bike. Perfectly safe and effective. Caution: check the battery fluid level; our small batteries can easily go dry.

It's important that the battery on these bikes be kept fully charged, to keep the stator from working overtime. The tender is one way to ensure battery and electrical system health.

I've used one for about 5 years and have nothing but good things to say about it. I put all 3 batteries in my basement for the winter and move from one to the next every week or so. A little inconvenient, but works just fine. The sealed Yuasa battery that came with my ZX-9 has been going strong since '97 and shows no sign of deteriorating performance.

The cheapest I have seen is at www.accwhse.com at $33.95 for the 12 volt unit. I'm going to get another one after the holidays if Santa doesn't help me out.
 
My local Car Quest has them on sale for 30.56 today only!
I just went and grabbed one.

That is a good deal. Maybe I should just go pick one up and if I get one for Christmas I'll return it. Thanks for the heads up.
 
I just called back down to CarQuest and asked how many was left, and guess what?? The local Honda dealer a block away caught wind of the sale and by now have them on their shelf for a nice 40 or 50% mark-up I am sure!! :evil:

I would not of sold them to them but,,, guess they call that buisness?????? :roll: :roll:

FWIW, I've had my battery tenders for several years now and thought I'd mention a couple of things. I have the quick disconnects hooked up so they're easily accessible. I just reach behind the side cover and pull it out when the bike is going to be parked for awhile. During the Winter months, I pull my batteries out and leave them hooked up but on my owrk bench so I can tilt them from time to time and check on the electrolyte level.
I have had problems with 2 of the battery tenders about 3 yrs after I bought them. Even though the warrantee had expired, Deltronics replaced them without the slightest of hassles. They even apologized for the inconvenience. If I could get a deal on the larger amp model for my boat batteries, I'd buy 2 more without giving it a second thought.
Speaking of which, has anyone out there used their bike Battery Tenders to keep full sized batteries charged? If so, did you have any problems?

I use mine on the battery in my Ranger and it works great. Takes a lot longer to get to float mode but otherwise you won't know the difference.

FWIW, I dropped by WalMart this morning hoping to pick up a couple of Battery Tenders at the price mentioned in an earlier post. Evidently, not all WalMarts carry the Deltron brand Battery Tender. The one that the local WalMart carries around here was $24.95 but not the "Battery Tender" I was hoping to see. Their's is made for WalMart by a Chinese company. Oh well. :(

Sorry, I was speaking of a generic battery tender. I didn't realize that Battery Tender was a trade name. Sorry for the confusion. But, doesn't Chinese electricity work the same as American electricity? :D

Yes, Chinese electricity works the same as U.S.A. electricity - haha.

BUT, Wal-Mart is believed to be able to sell cheaply because slave labor is used to make their products. Above and beyond the humanitarian considerations is the quality issue.

Buy the genuine Battery Tender.

Had you said : 'Above and beyond the quality issue is the humanitarian issue', I would have been more concerned. Even so, those people get paid money to work and they use the money to eat. They are just as important to me as any other human being on earth. There comes a point where we must let others in this world participate in the world economy and we can produce things that are more technologically advanced. I have been working at a steel mill for the past two days and it really frustrates me to work with people who don't care if the job gets done or not. They're in the union and the union will protect them. I'm sorry, there are a lot of really good employees that are union members, but there are a lot of union members that are not good employees. This attitude is not good for out country. Look what it did for the steel industry. American made doesn't quality like it used to . Why are we riding Jap bikes instead of Harleys? They're cheaper and better - that's why. Sorry to rant, but it's been tough working with the turkeys that I've had to put up with for the past two days. Very nice people, but not the best people for the job.

A short response to "The Nose's" comment regarding working with Union members. That can of worms you opened has, in a very real sense, a union label on it. If you think its bad working with union members that have a lousy attitude about quality because their union will protect them, try managing this same work force. I presently work for a company that has a unionized work force. FORTUNATELY I'm not in management. Having been a manager at a "normal" company, I sincerely feel sorry for the managers because this company doesn't have the huevos to confront the union. When a manger attempted to implement some much needed discipline, there was all kinds of hell to pay. As a result, the members get away with all kinds of destructive acts. The ironic thing is that the people who will be responsible for this company's closing will be the same one's to scream the loudest about how they got screwed. Amazing! Okay, I'm stepping down off the soapbox now. Anyone else want to take over?

I ran this set up last year for the batteries on the Suzuki and the Yamaha that I store for a friend. Both batteries kicked the bike over at first try when I put them on in the spring. All I had to do all winter was check the water level.
