DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Best 630 chain?

Don't bother me with 530 chain conversions

The 78 is staying with a 630 chain in my goal to revert it to stock

Who makes the best 630 chain?

Jeff @ Z1 has RK X rings

I have bought two of those chains from Z1 and they are simply fantastic! They never seem to need any adjustments. Even after over 7,000 miles!
I buy them several links longer to allow for the 1100E swing arm and different sprocket sizes. ;)

RK X-ring, top of the food chain chain.

I check and lube mine often, but so far it's outlasting the sprockets.

I put an RK 630GSV XW ring chain on my GS1100E.
And I bought a new one for my GS1000E still in the box.

They had them on close-out so they said, because everyone was
going to the 530 Conversion.

But I just looked them up and they still show them listed.
630 GSV rated for bikes up to 1,400cc. Says Takasago on the box,
Say's in GS1000 service manual on page 10-40 that the Takasago
GSO 630 chain should be the one used for replacement. The GSV
is a newer technology and has different rings, made to hold a quantity of grease in it.

Believe they were going for $69 a piece, plus shipping at one time.

Okay, the RK it is. I wish they were $69

So, question 2

I have the aluminum GS 1100 swingarm on the bike, will the 96 link chain fit, or do I have to go with 98?

630 Conversion...or Not

630 Conversion...or Not

Hmmm...in case I decide to stay with my 630...I'll follow this post.

I just did this on one of my Skunks and IIRC it took 104 links. I just purchased 110 links from Z1 to be certain. Measure twice, cut once. ;)
Of course, depending on your sprocket tooth combination, your results may vary. (<Disclaimer)
