DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi guys, hope everyone is doing well. My 1980 GS1100E died suddenly mid-ride last night. It has been running fine prior, has fuel and battery has been charged recently. It seems there's no power going to spark plugs and the starter button is not responsive at all, as if I turned kill switch off. Headlight and instruments seem fine. I suspect it might be fuse, likely the ignition one. Haven't had a chance to look at it though, as it was late and I left my bike at someone's garage and went home. Hope you can help me refresh my memory as to which type of fuse I would need to get, before I head out to retrieve my bike. Much thanks.

prob not much help but did u make sure the clutch switch to use the starter is working.

also i belive its 10a for every fuse except the main one which is 15a, just pull the fusebox cover off it'll tell you, and actually there might be an extra fuse waiting to be used

this is ofcourse what it is on my gs650

So know the Main fuse/power and Head and Instr fuse/power are okay. But could suspect the Ignition fuse.

Clutch swtich can prevent the starter button from doing anything, but will not kill the ignition.
Try wiggling the clutch lever while it is pulled in and finger on starterbutton, if that makes it go, then need to adjust the swtich,

1980 Gs used the "glass" fuses, not sure about the Es, but guess same.
Ignition fuse (and Head and Instr) will be 10 amp, so get some of those. (Main should be 15.)

May sure you try to start the bike as-is when you get back to it.
I had an 850 many years ago that would quit running when it got hot. An hour later it would be fine. Pretty sure (now) that it was electrical, but this was back when I knew nothing about working on bikes.
