A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

it got really cold today below freezing and i noticed my gs has leaked a liitle oil from the bottom cranckcase .is this normal for a gs ?

I dunno. My 650 started doing the same thing after staying dry all summer. Maybe it's its way of asking to be let into the house...........bikes have feelings, too.

I havent noticed such in 20+ Michigan winters of having 650G, 850G or 1100GK in unheated garage.

If leaking from the oil filter cover that will not be so bad. Next oil change get a filter with a new o-ring (Fram has such included).
.

gaskets dont last forever. It depends on which or were the leak is.Is it the oil pan or the filter cover or the oil pan bolt????

I never leaked a drop from my crankcase. Just that damn 20 bolt valve cover and tach gear. Oh yeah the cam chain tensioner.
I'd also check the oil plug and the clutch cover. It can also come from the starter cavity.

I have a 650g that is leaking from just about everywhere on the lower end. In my case, the previous owner had left the crankcase full of oil-gasoline mix and it destroyed the seal between the cases. I hopefully will get some time this winter to pull motor and split cases to reseal it. It can be fixed, just takes a lot of time. Personally, if it is only seeping, I could live with it. Mine has turned into adding oil every tank of gas habit, it also burns a bunch. Good luck.

It can also leak from around the gearbox output shaft. Mine did and I had to replace 2 seals. Didn't have to split the crankcase though. Not too tough a job
Cheers
Don

I have a oil pan gasket for an 80-83 1100. If it fits yours let me know.
