    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Bizarre electrical problem!

Hi everyone!
My GS300l just died in a very very odd way... first it lost the brights, then the headlight, THEN, it would only run with the turn signals running and it being in high rpms, but only when the turn signal blinks on... it will still start too. I'm not even sure where to start on this one, but it does run with when the turn signal light comes on (just during its on phase though). The frame of the bike is reading 12 volts, so i'm thinking a short? i just don't get why it would work only when the blinker comes on. And how might i test for and then trace it if it is a short? Or does anyone have a wiring diagram for gs300l?? Thank you for your help!

No wiring diagram needed, it's rather simple.

Any time you have strange things going on, it's probably a GROUND issue.

And, ... it's not a "short", it's an OPEN.

Since you say the frame has 12 volts on it, it is apparently NOT connected to the battery negative terminal.

Check your ground wires, I'm betting you will find one loose or missing.

Welcome to the forum.The frame is ground. Put your negative meter lead on the battery negative and positive meter lead on the frame. What do you read? It sounds like your R/R is allowing too high a voltage and burning out lights, the stator is soon to follow if that is the case. Sounds like the turn signal is supplying the ground when it's turned on allowing it to run,
I'm in the camp with the other Steve, floating or disconnected ground.

I have to agree with Steve you have a grounding problem, check and clean them all:D
 
Thank you all for the quick reply! I'll check all the grounds and test the lights to see if their burned out or just not supplied. I'll let you know what i find! Thanks again
