If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

4" spacers with the stock fork springs?

Correct but I removed the factory metal spacers which were about 3" . So I only added about an inch of extra preload. I weigh 250+ so I needed the extra preload until I can replace the springs.

Awesome. Thank you. I want to do the same on my 650g. Was it hard to reinstall the fork caps with the extra spacer length?

It was certainly a bit harder than before. My forks have the air nozzle so I used an adjustable wrench to turn the cap while pushing down on it. It took a couple tries but it went. Without the wrench it was nye impossible.

Yeah, mine has the air nozzles too. That's why I asked. But it it sounds doable. Think I'll give it a whirl this weekend. Thanks. Your bike is coming along great by the way!

So after a long (shorter than normal at least) winter, things are finally starting to happen up here in the great White Mountains. Pulled the 850 out today and finished installing the new Shinko 712's front and rear. Took it for a test ride to scuff them in and I'm impressed. The bike feels far better. Even with the colder temperatures somewhat limiting traction (50ish degrees today) I still couldn't believe the amount of handling these new tires provided. The bike is far easier to transition from side to side and the overall ride quality has improved. Also, considering I took the old 404's off and spooned these on myself, I can say that they aren't too hard to manhandle on to the rim. Had a tough time getting the front to seal enough to start taking air to seat the bead (even with a ratchet strap) but after that all was smooth sailing. Looking forward to getting out soon and scrubbing up the chicken strips on these tires.

Hopefully too I will be able to order the new regulator, stator, and rear shocks within the next couple of weeks. Going with an SH775 reg with the Electrosport stator. For shocks I'll be grabbing a set of RFY's. I know people have mixed opinions on them but the pair I have now on her bike are damn good and I am hoping I will be equally impressed with set number 2.

Little more progress today. Got the new shocks and regulator installed. Slowly drawing to a close on the stuff I want/need to do to the old girl. All that's really left is cosmetics and upkeep. Feels good to be here after so long but at the same time I kind of enjoy the build phase. My check book doesn't but who cares what she thinks right? Right? Help me out here lol. Anyways, here's a crappy phone pic from today showing new shocks. The gold on the shocks has given me an idea on the direction I want to take the cosmetics but let's leave that for another day.

As you can see in photo I am in the process of trying to stretch a piece of vinyl for the seat. Happy with the way the front is sitting now I just have to button up the back of it a bit.

So I just caught up on this thread. The gold accents are looking good.
I am guessing you installed the stage 3 dynojet kit?
Care to elaborate on the experience?
I ask because I just installed the same pods and similar pipe on my 850. Dynojet kit, stage 3 is installed, but I have not fired it yet. It's still in the basement as I wrap up a few cosmetic details. I'll be pulling it out soon to fire it up.
If I remember, they said use the 160 jets to start.

So how was your experience tuning it after you got it running? Ie: what mains did you end up using and how did it run, how many turns out on the mixture screws? Blah blah....

Ps, my 850 spent it's 17,000 mile life with a Vetter fairing , trunk and hard bags....I also added a spacer to firm things up but boy my springs are toast. Will be upgrading too . No choice.

Yea I went with the stage 3 kit. I installed it per instructions (tedious but not overly difficult). I went with the largest jets in the kit so I think it was 160 or 165. Also went to a 47.5 pilot. Fuel screws are set at recommended 4.5 turns out from seated. Honestly the whole thing was basically set it and forget it. A few plug chops showed that fueling was nearly spot on so I didn't chase it. I need to pull the carbs I think to clear some winter crud and re-balance them. It runs really strong but right now it has a slight, intermittent hesitation off idle which doesn't surprise me as I didn't drain the carbs over the winter (I thought I did, I was wrong whoops). I am really happy overall with the experience.

I also did it as per instruction.
I just completed a full teardown and rebuild and bench sync then installed the kit.
All my bench synced carbs so far have been easy to tune and syncronize.
This is just my first stage 3.....sounds like plug chops will be the move to finish the dial in.
Thanks for the response. Glad you had positive results.

I have just read through your entire thread and the one thing I would like more info on is the mirrors. Can you give us a non-biased opinion on how well they work. Any sort of distortion or buzz at highway speeds?

Thanks, just looking for the best available mirrors for my 1000.

The mirrors are a mixed bag. I love the look and they function well by and large. My only nags are as follows. They make the handlebars quite wide so if, like me, space is at a premium and you have to thread the bike through tight spaces in and out of the garage, you will be adjusting them every single time you ride. The other issue I have is they tend to move above 75-80mph. Or at least one of them does. It's not a problem 99% of the time hence the reason I have kept them. Overall I like them and would probably buy them again.

Thank you. Sounds like they would be better than what I currently am using.

So earlier this week I purchased one of these fuse boxes:

Just got it in today and went ahead and wired it up:

Overall I am very happy with it. It's nice to have fresh, clean contacts and the peace of mind that goes with it. Also, modern blade style fuses are great. I actually tried to find a box that took the smaller blade fuses but it turned out to be a non-issue. As you can see, even with additional options for circuits, the new box is almost spot on for size for the old one. In the photo, I built the jumper wire to connect all 6 connections on the left side just in case. Now that I have test run the bike with the box in place I will remove the bottom two positions to free up space to run 2 fused accessories (I have a 12 volt power socket/usb port ready to go).

Here it is all mounted up and ready to go. You can also see the SH-775 regulator that got installed a little while back peeking out from under the battery box.

So after some input I realized I had wired the the box wrong. Here it is wired correctly.
