DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Well after 6 years in storage I drug the boxes of parts out and hauled the carcass home. Pics will follow at some point.

Hope you found a paint code formula, or a match to that spray out I sent.
Good luck on the project

First pile of bolts ready for clean up. I have broke down the calipers and master cylinders. Gonna need a front master cylinder kit and all the piston seals and dust boots.

Fender is near perfect, Exhaust is pretty nice too but I have another full one in storage to do some mix and matching later. I have the base gasket, head gasket, and all the valve stem seals for when the engine comes out of the frame. Next step is to degrease the engine and get stripper and shoot everything right as it sets. Lay the bike over to clean the bottom and apply the stripper. Then use some 00 grade steel wool to scrub everything and reapply stripper as needed.

Power was everything and then yank the engine from the frame. Then then get frame repainted and do the engine top end. Paint engine and start adding to the rolling chassis. Plan is to buy chromed spokes, polish the hubs and clear coat them and have the rims relaced.

Can't wait to see the finished bike. Your stuff always is top notch! (I'm envious!)

I'd give one of the two hangy-down things for a 1978 GS1000 if anyone has one to get rid of. I need a big brother to the 750E!

Keep us posted on the progress!

Chuck, looks like you got something very good to work with. Pipes, fender, and the one original case emblem all look to be really good.
Don't see too many of the dark blue ones, can't even find a pic on the Internet of one.

Good Luck!

I'll be watching this closely.

Two random questions: how do you clean up the bolts? In my Nissan days, I remember someone on the forum offering to clean bolts by the pound. I thought he put them in big rotating drum. Is that what you do? And what is this stripper you use after degreasing the motor.

I use the wire wheel on the bench grinder..Just dust them a bit. I use the spray can aircraft paint stripper from Orielleys to strip the frame, engine, and tank. Do the initial dose and scrub with some 00 grade steel wool. Use gloves or hold the wool with hemostats or something for this step. Power wash everything and go back and spot spray anything left from dose #1.

So after 15 minutes it all blisters and now to power wash it. Note that the first round of stripper isnt gonna get it all. Next step is to remove the pipes and engine from the frame and spot strip and sand the remaining paint.

Power washed and the initial treatment got about 85% I would say. Once the engine out and i do spot spray and some sanding it will be ready for repainting. Laid the bike over to power wash the bottom. Pipes got a very little yellowish tarnish that will rub out with ease. These pipes are in really decent shape!!

Today was engine removal and frame prep day. Also prepped some of the brackets and such and hung them on my Chineses clothes line drier machine. Took the angle grinder and a rope wire wheel to the top side of the frame and flipped it over to do the underside. Tomorrow will be paint the frame day. Exhaust is hanging on the wall and will be the last thing polished up before installation.

Bottom side is blacked out. Got another center stand painted and hanging on the drying line so this ones just for standing the frame on. Let this side cure overnight and flip it upright and do the top side.
