DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

It was running rough at slow steady speed. I replaced most of the jets. Now it runs great at slow speed but when I really get on it it doesn't accelerate. Just put in new 122.5 mains. No difference. Only mod is a K&N filter, not pods.

Thanks,

Lenny

I just looked at your other thread that showed some carb problems and noticed your urge to take the bike to a shop for repairs.

Not to sound mean and nasty or anything like that, but if you can't (or won't) work on your own bike, having a 30-year-old bike is probably not for you.

As pointed out in the other thread, there are very few shops that will let anything older than 10 years old get through the door, and, for the few that do let them in, you will be financially raped to get back out.

122.5 main jets are a little too much compensation for a K&N filter element. I am running stock jets and K&N elements in most of my bikes with no problems.

You say you "replaced most of the jets". What? Three out of four? Or all the mains, but not the pilots? What "most"? What did you replace them with? Brand? Sizes?

Have you stripped the carbs down and cleaned them fully? No, I guess not, because a shop will not do that for you, at least not without taking out a second mortgage on the house.

Most of your symptoms are pointing to dirty, mis-adjusted carbs, but, for them to work properly, you also need to ensure that the valves have been adjusted. Since you don't know the history of the bike, assume that it has NOT been done recently.

Where are you? One of us might be close enough to help.

Hi Steve,

No offense to your reply at all.

I would prefer not to work on the bike but not so much that I won't. I am busy in spring, summer and fall. Less so in the winter. I really prefer to just relax while riding. Not having done bike work before I get frustrated when I have to do it over again.

I did the carb kit from Z1 but no I probably did not do a complete enough job. What is frustrating is the original problem is fixed but the new one came up.

I spoke to Chris at Z1 and he said I probably did not need a Dynojet kit so I just put in the new mains he sent me.

The bike pulled like crazy with the old mains. For better or worse I am close to sending the carbs to someone or replacing them if that is possible.

I am on Long Island, New York.

Thanks,

Lenny

The "carb kit from Z1"? Which means that you spent about $100 for a bunch of parts that were not really necessary?
Sorry about that, we usually catch guys before they waste their money on "carb kits".

If you feel the need to send them out, let me know, I will be happy to refurb them for you.
