    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok you all have been a big big help so far http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?t=119626
but I've ran into a bit of a problem. I started taking the carbs apart this morning for the dip and rebuild, the tutorial is very very helpful by the way, but I ended up cutting the bowl gasket. It's all still there but it's not exactly a complete circle any more. It's only split in one spot but what can be done? Can I get new ones? I don't exactly want to have to wait around on gaskets so can I use the old one with a little bit of gasket sealer? What are my options here?

Depending on how cleanly the gasket got cut, you might try re-using it, but don't use any sealer. Most of the sealers don't do too well with constant exposure to gasoline.

New gaskets are easily available from your dealer, Bike Bandit or Z1. When you factor in shipping, there might not be much of a price difference. This is one of the few times the dealer comes out looking OK.

If you have no life (lots of free time), you can cut your own gasket.;) I made the gasket shown below using a small piece of sharpened tubing to punch the holes.

I'd say so too (since one of the holes is still uncut). Nice job Nessism.

I was going to suggest the gasket paper option as well. I have rebuilt many vintage car engines using nothing but hand cut gaskets. It's slow (very), but with a sharp stencil knife and a sharp pair of scissors it is very possible.
 
Yup, made the one on the left. The missing hole was not needed so I skiped it.

If you go this way make sure to measure the thickness of the gasket paper, it comes in different sizes. Can't remember what I used but it was close enough to stock to work fine.

A little trick my pro wrench taught me to help the gasket seal and to keep it flexible.

Smear a little bit of axle grease on the both sides of the gasket. Work it in a bit with your fingers. Its not affected by gas so don't worry about that. if you need to take off the bowls next time they will come away in one piece and you can reuse them.

I've done this several times on carb rebuilds, it works well and I've never had a leak.
