    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Brake lights dont work....

Hey all...

Going to do a once over in a few minutes to see if I can nail down the problem, but neither my front lever or back brake lever make the light go off.


Yeah, I changed the bulb.


I'm going to take apart the front switch to check things out (think I cleaned it a few years ago), but I was wondering if it could be the back spring-assembly, or perhaps something else commong.

Try adjusting the switch by loosening the two screws on the slide plate and moving the plate. The switch is pretty simple and easy to adjust.
 
A spring inside one of the switches is probably weak, broken or the contacts are just stuck..

Most Suzuki switches can be disassembled and repaired and they often fail due to dirt and corrosion. Both causes are easy to fix.

Put the whole thing inside a large clear plastic bag, then work inside the bag.

This keeps the small parts inside the bag and avoids loss.

Remember to lubricate the parts before reassembling and stay away from white grease because it turns hard after a while.

There are dielectric greases available, and those are recommended, but I have used common lubes for many years with no problem.
 
First things first: do you have power going to the switches? :-k
Easy way to verify is to check your turn signals and/or horn.
If they don't work, check the third fuse. :o

He definitely has power, the light won't go off.
I vote for rear brake light spring being hung up.
 
Well, I just took a look at the corroded front switch, and the two wires are barely hanging on.


I'm gonna break off the old solder, clean it, cut the wires, and re-solder the front.



Then we'll see about the rear.....

:oops: Oops. I just scanned through and read "Brake lights don't work..."

I missed the part that said he could not get the light OFF. :oops:

OK, one more thing to check. Maybe the bulb is wired backward. Pull the third fuse.
If the light is still bright, the bulb socket is wired backward, and the tail light wire is connected to the brake filament. :-k

That's how I read it also when I first looked at it...
