DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello, was riding home from work , coming down the last street to my house I shift from 2-3 and the tranny got stuck mid gear.
now it seems that it goes through the gears , no power to the tire mind you #s 1-4 smoothly and jamms in 5, i can play with the shifter and it will go but not without some wiggle action. from there it moves into the 6th position and the dash no prob.

what area should I be looking at opening up to inspect? my thoughts are the transmission its self and some type of shear pin or linkage broken. Ive never worked on a bottom end or transmission so am not sure what to look for.
Any comments , help or diagrams will help im sure so I will be checking back thoughout the night as tomorrow is my day off as I am without a ride or truck atm (It crapped out on monday) InternetpolicecsisAthotmaildotcom

Now where is that manual....

ok so found my manual , worn dogs on the pinions and selector forks bent.. sound right ?

Their is a spring inside the oil pan that breaks sometimes. Check all of the shift linkage, Their are also some springs behind the clutch too. Good luck

drop the oil.
open up the clutch side cover.
open up the belly pan

look for pieces in the pan. they'll let you where to look next.

take out the clutch plates and

shift the trans. while turning the inner clutch hub. feel and look inside up through bottom of engine and see if a shift fork is broken or bent as it shifts through the gears and turns the rear tire. you'll see why in a quickness I'd bet.

Was the bike warmed up before you set out? sometimes cold oil will produce shifting problems. My 83 gs550e had trouble shifting into first, the clutch was out of adjustment.

The prior posts are good advice, just check your clutch freeplay first it may be out of adjustment, then remove the clutch and follow the prior posts.

It's rare transmissions go unless it's been abused.

Hope this helps.

Oh man i feel dumb, a thrown chain! found the master link inside the housing, Sprockets are all ok so no damage there.
Went back and looked for the chain and no go, too bad it wasn't too old.
Thanks for the help.

A missing chain is definetly better than a bad transmission!!

You are very lucky you didnt get the clutch rod bent and the cases damaged.

so buy a nice new on and a good one it will be cheaper than new engine cases

or hospital bills
