A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi guys and gals, I'm in upstate NY, have a 82 GS450T my father in law generously gave me, its no Katana but it'll do 80 with head room (when it runs).

Just at the moment i'm changing one of the coils as that seems to have gone the way of the dodo taking out the neutral light and head lamp (full beam still works) I figure I had a short somewhere but nothing I could find and had disappeared when I put new LED indicators on to match the rear LED tail/break lights (and yes I had already changed the flasher unit) so while I don't believe it, it appears to have been in the indicators.

Mechanically I'm dangerous but electronically I'm positively deadly (3 years failing electrical and mechanical engineering at collage 20yrs ago) hence the reason I'm here because I'm sure I'm missing something or making a stupid mistake (putting lipstick on a pig don't count), and as this is my only transport 90% of the time and I'm so poor the idea of taking it to a mechanic keeps my wife up at almost as much as the nightmares she has of my working on it....

So any advice would be appreciated if not always followed correctly.

P.S My F-i-L had the carbs cleaned and the petrol cleared out of the sump when the petcock failed and I put on a new petcock (about the only thing I've probably done right)

Good on you for putting a full-face on the youngster. The mechanics will chime in soon.

Welcome to the forum. What part of upstate? I've lived in Orange and Monroe counties.

She wanted a skull cap with skull and flames but mum made her get a full face and I remember my bright orange peaked open face, so not cool, dangerous and even though my dad was a very conservative rider, unpleasant in the wind so I didn't disapprove as cool as it sounded when she told me about it and I promised her some skull-family stickers for it to cheer her up.

Broome of all places, I'd say it was a clean sweep coming here but I'm still the same A-hole just on a slower bike :cheerful: which isn't a bad thing as you have more cops and less speed camera over here making a ton undo-able almost any time :(

Welcome! I'm glad the kiddo has a full face. It's the only way I'll ride.

Thanks and I really prefer the modular but I'm a smoker but hopefully that a bad habit littl'en wont pickup and frankly if she starts burning the back of my leathers she can get off and walk:)
Nice bikes btw.
