A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

broken front head bolt

Has anyone been able to remove the front pinch bolt between 2 and 3 headers on the headafter breaking ? It's the 10mm bolt that pinches the headgasket. I, unluckily, had a weak bolt and when torqueing it decided to snap. This wouldn't have been too bad when the engine was out, but it's all in the frame and I would really hate to have to undo half the build and go backwards that far. Hopefully someone here has some tricks up their sleeve on how to remove the broken bolt while in the frame.

My only idea is to use a flex bit off a drill and do the easy out thing. Ive exhaust my other options up until now of trying to get the bolt to spin using small flatheads and such.

Probably not what you want to hear but I'd pull the head or just tolerate an oil leak.

As Chef says, The head comes off with the motor in the frame and you can do that in a few hours at any point in your build

Fire it up and see if it leaks

No easy outs
And if you have worked on it to get it this far then reverse and fix it properly
oil leaks on a Japanese motorcycle are an abomination.

That's just bad luck. If it was one of the 10mm bolts on the sides of the head you could probably fix it in place. But that upside-down 10mm one on the front? That's got to be the hardest bolt to try and get to and fix. It doesn't seem like that one little bolt makes much of a difference, but without it you are almost guaranteed an oil leak. If it was me, I would have to remove the head, fix it, and maybe upgrade that bolt to a stainless grade 8 so it wouldn't ever happen again!
