A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

So I am not a huge fan of how long the tail of the gs650g is so I was essentially looking at converting the bike from a 2 seater to a 1 seater. essentially shortening the frame in the seat area. i like the look of the stock plastics though so i will be reusing them along with their brackets. the only thing i would need to to is obviously have a custom seat made and modify the rear fender where the lights mount. i already looked at this and i think with some careful cutting and trimming itll look right.

to sum it up im trying to create a factory looking single seat bike.

what do you guys think and does anybody know if anybody has done anything like this before? if they have and there are pics id love to see them.

Check the thread entitled "post a picture of your custom gs" Im also curious of your location, only because the only time ive heard the word shibby was on the license plate of a Camaro near my mother in law. It read shibby 1. Coincidence?

nope not me...but its nice to know someone else has a similar mindset. ill check out the thread thanks.

heres mine its simple and gets lots of attenion

i like the look. your seat is alot shorter than i am going for but i see what you did there and its cool. my goal is to make it look more factory though. almost like a factory sport option. shorten up the seat a bit. daytona/drag bars. bar end mirrors. rear peg delete. just some of the few ideas i have kickin around.

I inherited a 82 GS 650G from my late granddad. Only has 11k miles on her. I'm looking to do the same type of build on mine. This forum is awesome with tons of good info. I can't wait to show off my finished product in honor of my late grandfather.

Y'all rock!

I know a guy in Florida that's done something similar:

using the stock tail and making a shorter seat is very common. Here is one on Craigs List posted on this forum:

http://providence.craigslist.org/mcy/3765526637.html

Look in craigs list in any area. I use years as a search, starting in 1972, and work up to 1985. probably close to 20% of the old Japanese bikes are cut up to make cafe/bobber/brat/street fighter bikes in any combination. A lot of those are old bikes with the seat shortened, low handlebars, missing gauges, sawed off mufflers, and the fenders removed. Many have the stock tail behind the shortened seat.

Some nicer than others. Few have rearsets, which are really necessary on a cafe bike. Lots of "builders" show innovation and creativity by spraying flat black.

I wanted to achieve a shortened look as well but in the end, ended up building a whole new rear seat. The work is the same I think. I did trim the frame as well.
