Maybe you could figure out a way to rig up an extra disc to a '78 GS1000 wheel like this one:

That's a magic looking job mate, I usually despair at some of the half-assed mods I see on our old bikes, but you've done a great job there, for sure!

I've got a 1979 GS750E with wire wheels and double disc brakes on the front, they're the same size as GS1000 wheels and they'll fit straight on your bike, but you'll need to mix and match the axles and spacers from each wheel to make them fit.

That 78 GS1000 front wheel has an alloy rim, what did that come off? I'd love a pair of them? Cheers, Terry.

OK....stick a fork in it....its done!:-D ....there is a little grease on them from my hands but I'll wash her up tomorrow. I'm done for tonight.
I think what you need is a one-way-ticket to my place.

I am going through GS customizing withdrawals!!!....

I have been looking for another GS project for a couple of months now.....almost picked up a GS750 but it was gone by the time I could make it out to the guys house....what a bummer!!

Wish I could find a pre-78 GS locally!

I have been pretty busy on my projects but I am partial to the GS series.

Just wanted to share some others that I've done since my GS1000.

First pics are my Kawasaki KZ650.....I shaped a dunstall style seat for this one...kind of boxy...but I think it turned out ok.

Second is a Yamaha XS650....

and finally.... I'm almost done with my Honda CB400T Hawk....Took me about 8 days of late nights and all weekend to get it to what it is now.

I cut the tank so that it is flush on the bottom instead of swooping down toward the side panels and pounded in some knee inserts. Since I don't trust my sloppy welding for sealing the tank, I used fiberglass over my welds after I grinded them smooth.... I did a pressure test and amazingly enough....it holds perfectly!

If anyone is in the southern California area and wants to get rid of a GS that needs work....please let me know.....Thanks!

Wow, this project is taking shape in a hurry.

Must be a double expresso.

I....am....not....worthy!!! I'm not worthy!! I'm not worthy!!

Dude, You have so much talent it makes me wanna puke!! Excellent work!! :-D

Thanks!

It started as just a hobby....and love of motorcycles.......

now its more of an OBSESSION!

I thought I would always stick to modern day sportbikes....but the classics are hard to beat.....it is a whole new world of riding for me.

I had some time to polish the forks, engine cases, and rear sets today!

Anyone find me a GS750 yet?? [-o<

Wow, what talent. I have always loved the cafe look and your customs are fantastic. Keep on sharing, we mere mortals can use some inspiration.:-D

interested in a gs750 engine??..lol one piece of the bike.

What tools are you using to polish that stuff? I have some wheels and compound for my bench grinder but its kind of hard to take that off the bench and polish stuff thats still on the bike haha.

I use a brench grinder as well....with compound.

But for the big pieces and the pieces I don't want to take off the bike....I use a sander/polisher with a buffing wheel attached to it....

I use white compound first....after sanding with 280...than 400 grit...

Than I finalize the polish off with red rouge compound.

Your Hawk is exactly what I want to do for a bike project...either a 550 or smaller (500 twin would rock) turned into a cafe / rat project. I want something that's opposite of the big 1100 to ride!

Wish you were closer to NC!

Cool thanks. I was thinking about trying to use my dad's Dewalt buffer with a different wheel on it.

the hawk was a pretty major operation.....especially the tank!.....I cut....welded....pounded....and fiberglassed the tank to look like that!

here's what it looked like when I got it:

Doesn't look too bad when you got it..I'd probably go the easy route and chop the rear and put drag or clubmans on it. Bodywork would be a winter project for me...

Wonder how much it costs to ship a bike from SoCal to NC? :D

About $300..... :-D

I started shaping my seat for the XS500 that I got on Sunday....started filling some dings on the tank......put some clubmans on......bought my cafe fairing, turn signals, and grips..

I also picked up some dupont base...clear...and primer.
