    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

This is the bike before I got it...but it didnt have that fairing on...The previous owner kept it stored in the garage for 5 years...he couldnt get it running. It was in great shape!!!

Same ol' problem with sitting bikes.... varnished carbs and plugged jets. I soaked the carbs and cleaned out the jets with a micro hobby drill bit when I got it home on sunday..... Later that evening...I put the carbs back together and added a new battery....Vrrrrooom....started right up!!

So, what did you do with those stocker bars? Still have them tossed in a corner of the garage? I'm still riding my GS850 with shorty bars and they just aren't a good fit for me. If you want to sell those stockers, send me an email plz.

I love what you've done to that bike. Very nice.

This is my modified 1978 GS 400X. its soooo hard to find parts for this bike. i guess they didnt make too many of these. If they dont make a bunch of these, doesnt that make it vintage or something?

HAP JONES sells the fairings for like 60 bucks...

Nate I have a set of stock GS850G bars off of my 1980 850. You are welcome to them if you want them. If so pm me and I will check on shipping. Shouldn't be to much.
 
Changed my mind on the seat shape....I went more squared off to match the staight lines of the tank.....

but even better news!!!!!!!!


I GOT A GS250 PROJECT TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! \\:D/

Wooo Hooo!!!!!! Its a twin !! I'll start a new thread with the cafe build up!!

Heres a snapshot of what I've done so far with the Yami xs500...I finally got around to painting it last weekend... I went with Diamont primer....silver base coat.....and poly clear coat. I also started sanding down the crankcase covers and fork...getting ready to polish them out.


 
I like the XS... :) Will the paint on the tank hold up to small fuel spills and drips?

and yes.... Diamont brand paint is a very high quality automotive grade paint.....the same class as Dupont and House of Kolor.

but no matter what kind of paint you are using....you still have to be carfull with gas spills until the clear is fully cured.....could take almost a month for that.

Nice Trike!! Awsome paint work!!

I love to look at trikes....but riding them is a whole different story for me....They are just not my cup of tea...I rode a VW motor based trike before and felt like I was in a car....I like to shoot the canyons and I just can't picture myself doing that on a trike.

Thanks for the invite! I might just have to take you up on that...the visit that is....My work has an office site in different parts of England and they might be sending me there next year. I'd love to check out the local bikes of the UK while I'm out there.

Heres a few pics of the XS500 in the daylight....I got to polish the forks, engine cases...and the valve cover sides today....Now all I have to do is mount a rear tailight.....put the cafe fairing on (already painted...but I'm waiting for some headlight brackets to come in), rebuild the petcocks (ordered some rubbers at the dealer....they are pretty leaky), rejet the carbs (ordered some new jets that are 3 sizes bigger because of the pod airfilers and the shorty pipes), fabricate a license plate bracket, and I'm done!!

I would of been finished with it today...but I'm waiting for the orders to come in....I HATE WAITING!!!....lol... I wish I hd a local store that had all of this stuff in stock!

Oh, forgot to say, I like your work... that XS was considered an oddball back in the day; are you going to keep it, or sell it? Are you building it for someone specific, or just going to take your chances in the market when you finish it?

OK, so I'm nosy, but I'm new here, and probably don't know better than to ask such questions anyway...

I've read this entire thread, and would like to know a few things:

Are you an engineer? If not, do you have any formal training as a mechanic? Where did you learn to do all those things (paint, bodywork, fiberglassing)? What type of work do you do? My lazy nephew lives in SoCal, do you teach students? Not trying to offend you, just want to know where you learned so much about paint, bodywork, and mechanics...

One more question; can you fix my friend's airplane? He bent it up pretty bad last year (but walked away), and I think you could actually get it all back together without too much hassle :D

LOL!!! Great questions!!

I will probably sell the XS.....

I am an engineer...but not the type your thinking of.....lol....has to do with computers:-D

The bike in the background is a 96 kawi eliminator...I just painted it black...it was puke yellow...

As far as experience with building....I actually am self taught....trial and error!...welding...painting....bodywork....mechanics..fiberglassing...

as far as teaching....I have been asked many times before.... but believe it or not...I really am pressed for time to teach anyone... I don't take any offense to anyone asking.... but with work (sending me all over the place)....bikes.....planes....surfing.... and "especially" FAMILY time...!!!!!

I usually work on my bikes late at night....then I get up early 4-5AM...

I find that the way I help people out is through forums such as this one.... When I have some down time...I get on the forums and share my work.

Thanks all....for putting up with my other projects other than GS's being posted..

I plan to start my GS250 soon! It should be an awsome lightweight runner... I plan on getting rid of everything I don't need on the bike to save weight... I might even mount a smaller gel cel battery under the seat and lose the side panels to give it that see thru look.... so that you can see the pod filters I put on it today.
