    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Caliper question...

Can someone tell me on which side (inside or out) of the caliper the clip pin side of the slider pins goes in?? Or have a pic of your caliper that would show me? I see one way of putting this together that makes sense but the book shows it that the clip pin side goes on the inside (wheel side of the caliper) but wouldnt that let the slider pins move and the pads to come out?? Lil confused, maybe one of you can help

EH my bad, im talking about the REAR caliper. The two retaining clips that go into the slider pins...which side do the go on?? The inside piston (wheel side) or outside piston (brake line side)...
 
We have different bikes but my retainer pins go on the right side of the rotor, looking at it like if you're standing from behind the bike.
 
not according to this schematic... Im talking about part 8 that clips into part 7, looks like it goes on the left side of the caliper, if looking at it from the rear of the bike. But what i dont understand is what holds part 7 from sliding out of the holes? The dust cover?? If so i need one...lol AND i think that was part of my problem...i had them in there backwards as it made more sense to me.

The holes on the pins go on the inside part of the outside caliper. Slide the pins through the pads until the holes are just visible on the inside of the outer caliper and put the slider pins in with a pair of needle nose pliers. I actually use a very small pair of vice grips.
The pins go between the inside of the caliper and the brake pad. Make sure you don't let the spring pad holders go a flying. :-D
 
Well then that schematic is wrong. Damnit, i thought maybe that was part of my problem too. Ahh well back to the drawing board.
 
Pins should only go in one way & where the holes in them end up is where the retaining clips go :-D
 
they can go in either way. There are holes on the outside caliper...
 
Ok just looked at a spare gs caliper & the pins are on the right as you look at the bike from behind, cant see any other way to put them that would make sense & thats how they are shown in my manual :-D
 
Thats the way it made sense to me too, but the manual shows otherwise.
