Backed back into the bike seen after a 30 year absence. Aquired an 83 Suzuki 650 gs that was not running. The carbs were clean. The spark was weak, and mostely not there. Wouldn't even pop. The spark pick up checked out with the multi meter, but I couldn't find a meter that was only 1.5 volts in order to check out the ignition modual that fires the coils. I ran a new wire to the + post on the coils (12 volts) from a sourse that did not involve the starter drain, and that did the trick. Good sparks. Runs very well except the choke kills the engine. Even a tiny bit of choke and the engine dies. I don't know the true odometer reading. The compression is good. No smoke. 2 questions about the cam chain. Is it necassary to remove the tensioner to adjust the tension, and can the chain be replaced from the top of the engine? Master link?
