A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm swaping a 650 top end onto my 550. The 550 cam will give me the powerband I want. My question is whether I should use the 650 bearing caps to match the 650 head or should I use the 550 bearing caps to match the cam but mismatch the head? Is there any kind of break in procedure I should be aware of? Thanks

You should use the caps that came with the head. They are bored together to match.

For first start up make sure that you put some moly on your cams and liberally squirted oil around in the top end - in the bucket pockets etc.

On first few rides don't let the engine labour and don't be afraid to use the revs - use plenty of revs.

I built mine using the entire top end from the 650 and the 550 cams, everything else up top is from a 650. I'm located on Grand Island near Niagara Falls if you need any help with your conversion or would like to see my project. I have made several parts which are designed specifically for the 550/650 hybrid (aka 674) motor, if you are interested let me know :D

Thanks, I might take you up on that offer if I run into any issues. How do you like the dyna2000? I am eventually considering one.

Please feel free to come by if you have time, might give you ideas for your build. for me the dyna2000 was essential for the ignition kill while upshifting, in addition to the dyna 2000 a quickshift sensor is needed, as well as having the gear engagement dogs "backcut", Paul Gast of Fast by Gast is just a few mile away from me he did the machining work for me, all said and done I'm happy with it.
BTW ignition kill on downshifts is also possible but you will need to fit a slipper clutch which means more $$$ that I just didn't have.
