    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Can spark plug caps be removed from & re-fitted to leads?

I am looking to try individual swap outs of various elec components (with my parts bike) to see if it resolves running issues but one of the coils is missing the caps. Is it possible to remove plug caps from one unit and put them on another?

Yes

If your talking about the actual caps/boots that slideover/connect to plugs, Then Yes they will. You un-screw them from the wire. pull back the rubber cover that slides over/between the wire and plug cap and un-screw, then snip off a little of the wire to be used to get a fresh end and screw cap in/on to wire. remeber to slide the rubber cover on wire first.
I always remove caps and cut a fresh end on bikes that sat for a while or are older, can be the cause of poor ign. probs.

I am having problems working out how to demount the ATU so I can clean & lube the back of it. It seems to be different to the ATU's in the Clymer & Haynes manuals and the plate wont come off past the doohicky (smaller plate) mounted on a hex head nut with an allen key bolt in the middle of it. I can turn the engine by allen key or spanner and I've tried undoing the allen key bolt from the nut, but she's stubborn and I'm worried about busting something.

If you know someone that can 'tap threads' you could tap that thread a little deeper and get a slightly longer bolt in there to hold that cover on properly (maybe).

Thanks Zooks, I'll have a look.. btw I got her sorted out. It was the coil for plugs 1&4. I might have a look at trying tp provide a key for a plug of epoxy to tap into.:-D
