    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Can't get my nut off

This one is giving you a run for your money. I am sorry to hear you burnt up two discs. See if you can buy a tougher disk Hap, they make them. You can get them tough enough to grind through almost anything. The only reason I am saying this again is because I am afraid that with the amount of torque it sounds like your going to have to put on that thing to break it loose you may end up twisting the shaft. I have also seen threads torn off when in extreme conditions like this. It would be so much better if there was a way to cut that darn thing off.

I hope it breaks free for you with some heat and an impact driver/wrench. Use lots of break-free on it before and after you heat it up.

I am usually very good at removing impossible nuts like this, I wish I was there to help you out.

Okay, I finally got it off! It took a cutting torch (to heat the nut) and a half-inch impact, but the nut is off!!!

SWEET!!!!

Hap - I'm sorry you've had so much trouble with that nut!! I guess we should have tried to split the cases while you were here!! That'll teach you ... 8)

Glad you finally got it off - how does the inside look???? 8O

Mark, I'm tellin' ya, there's no way we could have gotten it off with regular hand tools 8O :? ! But the clutch basket is VERY nice (heavy duty springs, backing plate, and welded up nicely) :D . I haven't completely split the case yet because when I got back home after getting the nut off I had to cook dinner. I will get a better look tomorrow...

So far, except for the over torqued nut, it is a dream! :D

Lindsey cannot stop saying how HOT Jason was....I must have listen to Burgandy Road 40 times on the way home!!!

There would have been another shot with the Dremel, Hap.

The fibre discs should work on most steels, but they tend to grab and shatter with any flexing.

Works better if you use a diamond disc. I have used these quite effectively under a trailer and a couple of tight spots where using a hammer and chisel would have taken a year or two. Surprisingly, the diamond discs are not expensive.

I probably shouldn't tell you this, but I do own an air compressor and a really nice impact 8O

I'm glad you and the girls had a good time, I know Jason was plum warn out the next day ... we had a really great time - will have to do it again (when I run across that turbo unit you need for the motor) :!: 8)

Hey Hap,

Cool you got that nut off. I've had difficulty like you but not that severe.
I found what I think is a galvanized chainlink fence bracket that goes around a fat post. Its just shy of 1/8 inch thick and about an inch wide. It wraps around the post and has two tabs that stick out about an inch.

I looked at it at the hardware store and said that looks about right. I brought it home and it fit perfectly over the inner clutch hub (1100E/1150ES). The two tabs fit perfectly into the clutch basket (where clutch plate tangs go). I take a small piece of metal and angle it between the inner clutch hub indents and clutch basket in a different spot than where the tabs from the bracket go. Angle it to oppose the loosening or tightening of the nut.

I then take a pair of Vice Grips and pinch the two tabs together inbetween where the clutch plate tangs go. Orient the vise grips so that you can use your foot to resist the torque being applied.

This may help when tightening the nut to spec on your rebuild because of the spinning factor. Hope this might help, I think the bracket cost about $4. Happy New Year, Carter

I was down for the evening, went back to work the very next day! Some guys get lucky they tell me, I guess I was one of them. A little tender but no issues getting around or operating the concrete truck I was driving at the time. It was a horrifying experience getting it done though :) Even though the whole thing lasted about 5 minutes. lol

One of the best things I've ever done in my life! :lol:
