A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Is there an o-ring involved in the needle valve on these older carbs?
Where do the o-rings go?

RG

There should not be an o-ring for your float needle valve seat. There's a fiber (stock) gasket that seals the brass seat. It may have been changed to a metal gasket (aftermarket).
It goes right over the seat.

Is there a reason the fiber gasket wouold not be reusable?

As a replacement may take a bit of looking.

I've re-used them before on a carb to carb basis. As part of a complete rebuild I always replace them.
If your bike was to leak fuel through the bowl overflow line after sitting awhile, and you're sure the floats/float valve are operating correctly, then you could suspect a poor sealing float valve seat gasket.

Where would I find replacements? My local suzuki dealer has little interest in bikes make before 2000.

Rebuild kits that include a new float valve and seat will also include the metal replacement washer.
If you're just looking for the gasket, try Bikebandit. Let me know if you find them.

I ordered 4 valve seats from BB. I think 10.00 for 4 washers is steep but if it works it is a good value.

Wow! $2.50 each for the valve seat washers? What do you mean you ordered 4 "valve seats"?

the valve seat washers were 1.05 each from bike bandit and then 6.00 for shipping. do the math. I'm not complaining if it addresses the issues it is a small price to pay. If I had my wits about me I would have bought more from BB to offset the shipping cost.

I just rebuilt my carbs with the kits from http://www.siriusconinc.com/default.asp - about $20 a piece.

The kits for our 77-79 GS550's are good, as they have most of the o-rings, needle, fuel float pintle, and seat.
