A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I HAVE A 81 GS 550L CARB That is jet ****ed
i need a new carb body !!! idk if someone knows if the bods are interchangeable with other carbs like a 650 or 750 850 ??? or if a set of 750 carbs would bolt up?

thanks any help is greatly appreciated !!!

what's wrong with the carbs? Usually you can salvage the body's unless you broke off a float post, then you can always use JB weld. :)

And FYI 1990-82 gs550's and all gs650's use the bs32ss carb bodys.

that should be 1980-82 guess a typo. UNless the carb body is broken it should be salvagable

pilot jet is stuck in there stripped real bad i took it to a carb shop and they seem to have ****ed it up even more
>? can i drill it >????
and do the carb repair kits go for 28$ buck everywhere ? thats just the best price ive found

and idk its a mikuni carb that doesnt have any part numbers or anything!!!
im so lost on it lol

JB weld does not work any more due to the ethnal in the gas. and I think a 750 carb will work, I have some if you need it. if you use another carb body you need to get the pilet air corrector out. I used a hacksaw and a vise. go close and then snap out the peice with a screwdriver. But before that try to drill the air screw . go to the hardwear store and buy a #2 SQUARE ezayout. I hate the round onesand, drill it out. use some PB baster and just go slow. I drill all the way thur the head of the screw and then tap the ezay out in. the first one I did I used a round ezayout and the thing broke off in the screw. never with a square one.

ask aroud for a tap for the air screw theads I know i heard someone said you can get them.

Cycleorings.com sells an O-ring kit for about $15, which is typically all you need other than maybe floatbowl gaskets.

BTW, the archives has thousands of posts detailing info like this. A quick search can save you a lot of money.

Do you have any proof of this? There are MANY posts on here where JBweld was used succesfully on the float posts.

I have no personal experience but there have been quite a few posts from people reporting JB Weld failure on float posts. Personally, I'd get a new carb body.

Well i just spent some time searching this boards. Looks like most of the people saying it wont work, have second hand knowledge. With a little prep work, JB weld will hold just fine.

My gs550 has had jbweld holding the float post on for over 4 years now. The package even says it works in fuel.

Next time you break a float post, i'll take the rack of carbs of your hands. :)

The float post that breaks off is the one next to the nail head on the float pin. If you support the float post with a small socket or piece of wood, you won't break off the post when the pin is pushed out. If you mess up and break off a post there is no reason to ditch the entire rack of carbs, just post a thread in the Parts Wanted forum here and someone will cough one up for you, most of the time for free. The GSR is a great place.:)

Maybe the new jb weld doesn't work! I tried to use the recent JB and on a small hole on a fuel tank and it lasted for about 1-2 months then all of sudden fuel started dribbling out... I use to use it for fuel but now question it's duribility. JMO
