DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Just picked up a 78 GS1000 w/15000 miles. Runs rough at idle.I know there are many items to check over besides the carbs, but I was wondering if any one has any recommendations for carb cleaner other than Sea-Foam that I can put in straight to the carbs thru the fuel line.Figured I would try this before I took them out so I can put a few miles on it and look for other issues that may be present

Don't waste your time or money on add in carb cleaners. They wont work where fuel can pass through so blocked passages stay blocked. You need to do a complete strip and dip with new O-rings as per the rebuild tutorial. No real way around it.

No such thing..they need the full tear down, new orings, and new bowl gaskets or just let it sit there. Sorry to be so blunt, but thats the REAL deal here.

I will post the links to what youll need..stand by.

Oring kit. 1 kit does the full rack. Measure the intake manifold oring groove and order them as well. Measure the ID. Ask for the drain ortings as well for the bowls.

1 can of Berrymans from Walmart.

And heres the best place ( even with shipping) for the bowl gaskets. I use them and havent had any ever leak.

The rack should have the good metal fuel tubes that require the orings unless someone has been into them and used the crappy rubber coated ones. IF you have the crappy rubber coated tubes, get the new metal ones from Z1 Enterprises.

I have done it before and it worked. Cant find good chemies though. Runs and idles once up to op temp with no choke.Nothing on this bike has ever been touched! air jets still have in unmolested paint on them. If they need work,we will find out after valves are done, ignition is proper ect.

Just what kind of shape do you HONESTLY believe the internal passages and 37 year old orings are in!!! Band aid tactics only delay the inevitable and cause frustration in the interum

Well, to ask the obvious question, why not Sea Foam?
And, does it still have points ignition?

To be HONEST,the way it runs now and the fact that it will take $10 in chemies and a half a beer to try and I am a cheap s.o.b. Yes its worth a try.Valve cover has never been off,and yes it still has points which will be replaced. Frustrated? Yes, I have 3 other perfect running bikes and not enough time to ride 'em all. This one will get its turn and be perfect when I find time to put quality time into her. I am in the middle of another build...

If you are going to ignore the advice you are given, why bother asking for it?
