    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

An engineer friend of mine told me the best way to clean a carb is with an ultrasonic cleaner. Has anyone tried this?
 
I use a small jewellery ultrasonic cleaner for small carb parts, jets, needles, etc. Works great.
 
Imagine how good it would be if you filled your ultrasonic cleaner with Berryman's. :shock:

You could probably get all four carbs done in a couple of hours. \\:D/

Yes, ultrasonic cleaning would be one of the best ways to clean carburators. The ultrasonics has excellent capabilties for getting into blind holes and small cracks. As long as the chemistry you are using for cleaning is capable of emulsifying the varnish/oils.
 
try undiluted Simple Green.if you think im crazy try it you will never use anything else again.and for those that have never heard of it.it is a soap to clean your vehicle.it works better than yamaha carb cleaner and no where near as toxic and no nasty smell:-D
 
simple green will eat away at aluminum if left for days.it will strip paint when undiluted so be careful.
after soaking for a few hours rinse all parts really well then dry (preferably with a compressor)the aluminum parts will have a white powder on them just brush it off.
if you like you can dilute it with hot water and soak the whole body in it.
 
Sonic cleaning seems to be the way to go nowadays. I've never tried it though and have relied on a method shown by my father many years ago. Wait till the wife is out and simmer the dismantled carbs in a saucepan with a drop of washing up liquid - just a drop. Best to use an old pan as the remant fuel will taint the pan for cooking.

For a more modern alternative I have discovered Cilit Bang - household cleaner that the wife buys. I have no idea what's in it but it's a useful part of the cleaning armoury.

Lemon juice is also good. Boil the carbs in a large pot for about 10 mins. The acid in the juice does a good job, but make sure you rinse and blow dry after boiling. If left too long the acid can eat the aluminum.
