DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I know you guys on here are real good but I want to push you a little. I have a 1980 GS850L that was having carb trouble. I happen to stop buy a Motorcycle salvage heaven and found what I thought where identical (already pulled off.) Looks like someone just rebuilt them because I couldn't believe the shape. Make a long story short they don't fit. The linkage is a little shorter so it won't match up with the intake and airbox. I got my bike running and would like to sell these to someone on here or Ebay that needs a nice set (diaphrams look perfect) and everything moves. I want to know what they are off from (size at least and maybe year.) I'm assuming it's a GS, they are Mikuni, 32mm and a "D" is stamped on the bottom of all the bowls. Pictures attached.

Measure the intake side throat with a caliper. I bet they measure 34mm. Your carbs are 32mm.

Sqdancer: Main jet is a 92.5. Pilot Jet is a #40. I'll work Thursday night is checking all the rest. Is there any thing else I can check to help identify?

Chef: 32mm for sure. I measured when I bought them and knew that that part matched. That's why I'm confused on what they are for. My father as an 82 GS650L and his look to be even smaller, like 28 or so. The way the choke assembly works I'm guessing it's from a 80 or 81 something. Possibly 750?

It is from an 80-81. They changed the choke actuator for the 82-83.

Chef, that is what I was thinking was an 80-81. I'm going to take apart on Thurs. and get all the numbers from the jets. Hopefully that will me the tell what they are.

They look just like the ones I had on a previous '81 GS 850G.

Chef, I was going to do that but getting the butterfly out looked to much for my skills and tools. Then if I did successfully drill out the stamped screws how would you go about getting them stamped to stay in place again?

I was referring to the choke and throttle linkage attached to the top of the carbs. I would not swap out the butterflies.
Now I'm confused on what didn't fit.

I attempted to put the carbs back together and realized they needed to be farther apart. Not a problem so I used my rails to hold them together, and changed a few other things. I checked the throttle and what happened was 3,4 four move and 1,2 moved but not all together. That's the linkage I was refering to. The link between the two in the middle wasn't long enough. Make sense, I didn't explain that the best.

Where they lock together. Gotcha.
They may be carbs off a Kaw but the choke and throttle cable plate sure look Suzuki.

From I found out. If the Main Jets are 92.5 and the pilot jet is #40, and we all agree that it's from 80-81, then it could be from a GS550. (same main and pilot jets.)

But I don't know which gs550. The E G GL ???

I hope this helps.
