    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi all; I've been away from the site for a while and my old handle got deleted. (fiftygs1100g) Strangest thing, I rebuilt the carbs on my gs1100g (82) with new o rings and a super cleaning according to the guide. It was the third rack I've done and it seemed to go smoothly. Now it will start on full choke but as soon as I try to rev it at all it cuts out and refuses to run. I've cleaned the tank and installed a new petcock and added an inline fuel filter. It seems to starve for fuel as soon as I ease back on the choke as it warms up and give it a blip it just bogs and dies. Very strange behavoiur. I thought maybe the supply hose was pinched because I added the inline filter but I'm just grasping for ideas and or someone who is good with carbs over here in Vancouver. I thought we had a couple of members over here but I can't recall who they are. Anyhow anyone who wants to wade in with some other ideas would be most welcome as I've started to pull out my hair. Have a look at all the choke plungers and make sure they are seating completely, make sure the choke cable is not hung up anywhere or maladjusted etc...
 
Hey Paul. Been awhile since you've been on I gather. I hope that means you've been riding more than wrenching.

Ditch the inline filter. If you have cleaned the tank and have a new petcock, crud shouldn't be a problem.

+! to what Rob says. Any chance you dumped a plunger in the cleaning solution?

is it stock and using the airbox because if it is and the airbox is not on then it will give you a hard time until it has the airbox back on as well as you may be just a little lean and the pilot fuel and air mixture screws may need adjusting a bit more to achieve what you are looking for



if you really want a fuel filter just to be safe then a high flow filter is what you need

i use this filter on my 78 Skunk and have zero fuel flow issues

very good filter and doesn't restrict fuel flow to cause any problems

Hi Guys; and many thanks for your responses! I'm running a stock air box with a brand new air filter. In re-assembling the rack I was meticulous about getting all the bits back together. Cable routing seems fine and they all move freely. The reason I did the carb rebuild was that this very problem of not wanting to run without choke and dieing when I try and feed it some throttle was occurring. I was told when I bought the bike that a shop had just "professionally" rebuilt the carbs. It seemed to run fine for about a 1500 miles and then it was back to this issue again. Given the amount of mismatched incorrect screws used in re assembly by the shop I wonder about how professional things were. Last time I looked in some of my local shops there were some kids back there a wrenchin' away but it seems we don't have journeyman mechanics anymore just "technicians". It's also why I was asking around if anyone in my neighbourhood knew of any gifted carb guys around. Cheers Paul
 
Well it's like they say, the bike only need gas, air and spark to run properly. It's just a matter of ruling out those 3. Have you vacuum synched the carbs since you put them back on the bike? or at least hooked the synch up to the bike to see how close they are. Maybe that's why it ran fine for 1500 miles and then started to do it again, maybe one or more of the synch screws on the carbs came loose?? just thinking out loud.
