    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Carb Jetting List

This thread isn't intended to be here for 'banter', if everyone could just focus on posting their bike with the carb settings it would be best.

Bumping this thread back up for more info and AGREE with Rob on this!

1980 GS1000E

155/152.5 main jets
Needles are up 1.2mm
Idle fuel screws out 2 1/2 turns
K&N pods
V&H 4into1
Float height factory
Valves are set at the high end of tolerance
I'm in Denver CO

So far there is no issue at all with idle or 4,500-redline, mid range is being sluggish
I was told to try and block the airport on the intake side of the carb that is on the right side (opposite of the air meter jet), I used some cork and did that and there was a very noticeable positive difference.

So my plan to take care of the mid range is: raise the needles another .2mm+ and block off the secondary air ports with something more permanent than cork.

1981 GS850G
4" foam pods
stock exhaust, opened up some by drilling (6) 5/16 holes around the exit center
stock idle jetting
air jets at 3-1/2 turns
mains 127.5
needles raised with fine washers until eliminated midrange bog
starts & runs like a champ great off idle jump to midrange
slightly bothered upper end acceleration depending where my legs are, midsets or highway pegs, due to turbulence around outer pods.
planning on making a shield to kill the turbulence factor on each side. Runs really well anyway.

****FINALLY!!!!!****

155/152.5 main jets
Needles are up 1.5mm (two small washers on top of needle) ***As of 9/13/19 I'm up 2mm on the needle, 1 shim washer on top of the e-clip, pulls hard***
Idle fuel screws out 2 1/2 turns +/-
K&N pods
V&H 4into1
Float height factory
Valves are set at the high end of tolerance
Used 4 DynoJet 4mm air jet plug (right side air port opposite of the jet on air intake side) Part #DC0301 $2 each

Installing the Dynojet plugs made a huge difference

Model of your bike: 1980 Gs1100L
Engine and any mods done: ‘83 cams set 105/107

Type of exhaust: V&H 4-1 supersport
Type of airbox/pods: K&N pods
Type of carbs: gs1150 BS36
Carb settings: gs1100 factory pro needles 4th clip from the top; 152.5 main jets, 47.5 pilot jets, 170 air jets (125 stock on the 1150 - this cured an off idle transition stumble)
Fuel level: 5mm from carb body (3mm stock on 1150)
Elevation: 750’
How the bike runs with this setup: Pulls hard to redline, wheel starts to lift about 6.5k. Feels a little rough at low speed cruise between 3k and 4K - various throttle positions.... so maybe pipe.
