    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Carb jetting question

I've seen a couple of threads regarding needing different carb jetting if your bike has an aftermarket exhaust. My bike has aftermarket exhaust (check the picture below...I don't know anything about these pipes as they were on the bike when I got it). I get mild exhaust "pops" on the decel. It runs great and doesn't "pop" on the accel. Do I need to consider rejetting the carbs or is this popping normal?

SWEET bike! Often a "pop" on decel is related to a lean condition OR slight leaks at the head, between the header and the head itself. IF you are having no other troubles other than a pop or two on the deceleration you may be slightly lean. I see from you picture that the pipes are slightly tan towards the first bend. This is not always the "perfect" gauge but it does suggest a slight lean condition may be present. You can try raising the jet needles a 1/2 notch and see if things smooth out.
 
Have the mixture screw plugs been removed? If not that needs to be done & the mixture screws set correctly. You may also need to shim the needles .030-.040 to correct the popping. None of this is hard, you just need to be careful & seek one of us on here that can walk you through it when you are ready to do it. Let me know if I can help. Ray.
 
Yup, you're running just a tad bit lean.

Usually with some popping on decel just another half turn out on the mixture screw will solve the issue.
 
I completely rebuilt the carbs a couple of months ago. I put the mixture screws in at about 2 1/2 turns from bottom. I wasn't sure how they should be set....?

When it comes to adjusting the needle, are shims needed or is it simply moving the needle?

After I do these things, I'm guessing I'll need to sync them again, right?

Shims are needed. The needle can't be just moved.
