DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Carb leaking gas

Last year I took my carbs off to clean and took off the float bowl off two of them and now that they're back in, when i turn the bike on it starts leaking gas from either one or two (I can't see where the leak is coming from).

Could it be the float bowl gasket that's making it leak? When I shut the bike off, the leak stops.

Could be the gasket but after a lay-up it could just be that the float or needle valve is slightly stuck ?

Had that with a Yamaha XS750 last month.
Just gently tapped carb. float chamber with wooden handle of a hammer whilst leaking and, as if by magic, the flooding stopped virtually instantly.

Now got similar problem with a VF750 Honda - BUT because carbs are downdraught the leaking petrol goes straight into the engine and two nasty things can happen.
Hydraulic lock.
Leakage past rings and down into crankcase.

Yep a couple good whacks with a dead blow hammer will do it most times.

agreed with above. although if you did do a true cleaning of the carbs you could of possible mixed up floats... maybe check the float heights? just saying. but im with stuck or needle valve.

Just an FYI add your bike to your signature for further help so we know what you are working with

And lastly welcome to GSR. Be sure to check out Basscliffs web site @ http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/

If it's on the centre stand it won't be the gasket because the fuel level should never reach it. As said before, stuck float needle, wrong float height or worn needle. I have had carbs start leaking after cleaning. The solution in that case was new needles. It happens the only thing keeping the float needle sealed was the filth.

Thanks. I'll try it. Hopefully there hasn't been any leakage into the crankcase..!
