A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

carb question

I have to replace one of the carb bodies for my '82 gs1100e. So my question is, which other year and make carbs are the same as my stock carbs?

I have to replace it because half of one of the pilot jets as well as its threads are gone.

Thanks,

Billy Miles

Just a thought, I broke a pilot jet off in my "83" GS 1100 E, & thought the whole carb was wasted. I used a left handed bit, a little smaller than the diameter of the jet, to try to drill it out. I had drilled apprx. 1/8" deep, when the bit hung the broken jet & backed it right out. Thought the threads were probably messed up, but a new jet screwed right in.

Using a flashlight and another carb to compare, I can tell that at least half of the threads in the carb body are gone competely. So if I am able to get the jet out, will there be enough thread to hold on to the jet?

Also, if it is worse than that, what carbs are the same as my stock units?

Thanks,
Billy Miles

If bucks are low you might try JB Welding a new jet in place. Couldn't hurt anything to try, right?

I'd be wary of placing JB weld in such a small area since it could cause the new jet to be locked in place and leave you no adjustability. to me it would be cheaper in the long run to find a carb body that is in good shape and rebuild it instead. :P

find a carb body that is in good shape and rebuild it instead.

That is the plan, but since I haven't actually gotten anything that resembles an answer to my post I am researching other sites for an answer.

Thanks for your reply Billy, but I couldn't find what I needed at your link. I have found a set of '82 and '83 carbs somewhere else though, I just have to have the owner send some pics.

All the 1100 E carbs are the same, except the "83" carbs are black. I would think any of the 34mm Mukuni cv carb bodies, of that era, will be the same. There is a set of stock 36mm, off of an 1150 on e-bay now. That set will bolt right on your 1100.

Billy, that darling little girl in your avatar shouldn't be called 'hissing cockroach'!

Thanks, I forgot to change my signature when I changed my avatar.

They are both 34mm but the main air jet is different. You can't change these out either.
