A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok.
Bike: 82 GS650GL (8v shaftie)

WHat are the exact specs of these carbs?

Flow CFM
intake diameter
output diameter
stock jet size

Goal: I want to replace them with something. Anything, really... prefer CV because I have better luck adjusting them. gonna start scouring EBAY and the papers for parts bikes, racks, or what have you.
Mine are shot. Took them apart for rebuild, got new job, professional movers... finally found them scattered through 3 boxes, and only about 3/4 there. Not worth the heartache and ulcers of trying to reconstruct.
(Already looking at pulling the jugs off, broke off the head bolt deeeeeeeep inside the bastage. No extractor known to man seems able to help. Gonna have to have a welder static it out.)

Or, conversely, if you know of bikes that are a straight swap in, or will easily fit my carb rack and then swap in, let me know. I'm a cheap bastage, so you likely don't want to sell to me. Gifts, however, are accepted.....

Can't help much on your model, but try your darndest to get the same year/model carbs.
Even a year before or after may have jetting changes that will run poorly on your '82. But maybe not. Just wanted to warn you though. Good luck.

I think that both the GS650G and the GS850G take the Mikuni B32S, but they use different jets. Why does that matter? Because there aren't many GS650Gs on Ebay, but there are usually GS850Gs for sale or being parted out. So carbs from the GS850G should be easier to find.

carbs from the GS550, 650, and 850 will fit your bike. There's a SLEW of them out there. but ALL the jets are different between models. you'll spend $12 in jets per carb not including needles.

Or... you could call up your local mikuni distributor, and tehy'll sell you a set of flatslides that should be "reasonably" jetted for you out of the box. ;-)

Like I said, if you get carbs off another model/year, do your homework.
Besides main/pilot jets, there could be jet needle and needle jet, air jet changes, etc. Can get expensive.
