A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Two newbie questions:

1. What is included, or better yet, NOT included, in a carburetor rebuild kit that I will have to purchase in addition to the kit.

2. Suggestion on who offers the best rebuild kits for '83 Suzuki 1100G?

Thanks for the info.

Those are both good sources for kits. K&L and Keyster seem to be popular, but verify all the parts. Some kits cover several years even though the jetting changed slightly during that time, so what's in the kits might be different than what's in the carb now.

You don't necessarily need to get kits. If you have the time, I would wait until you have them apart and see what you really need. As much as possible you should reuse the original metal parts in the carbs - jets, mixture screws, needles and seats, springs, etc. The OEM parts are usually higher quality. Even the top and bowl gaskets can be reused if they're not too old, but you probably want to start with fresh ones.

If you are in more of a hurry you could get one or two kits ahead of time so you have a few replacement parts on hand if you need them.

All the o-rings should be replaced and some are not included in the kits. www.cycleorings.com is an excellect source. They are very reasonably priced, high quality, the right size and clearly labeled.

You will also need at least 1 can of spray carb cleaner and possibly a gallon can of dip - Berrymans is popular - if they're really dirty, although I've found the spray carb cleaner seems to be stronger and works very well, but the dip is good if they're really gummy and need to soak to get all the inner passages.

Also it's a good time to replace the o-rings on the rubber manifolds between the carb and the head.

Look in the garage section of GS Resources for the write-up on cleaning carbs it's very thorough. Also I would do a few searches in the tech section, there have been a lot of discussions about rebuilding carbs.

Hope that helps - good luck.
