    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Carb Replacement Question

I currently have a 1980 1100E with mikuni bs34ss carbs.

I am thinking of replacing with a new set of 4 carbs. Does anyone know of the model # or brand of something to replace these with ?

I searched in Mikuni and didn't really see/understand what I could replace with.

any ideas from y'all would be much appreciated.

I replaced the BS carbies on my Katana with '89/'90 'Slingshot' 34mm carbs from a GSX-R1100.
The bike runs sooooo much better. Full account of the proceedings here.
 
Rebuilding your existing carbs, or finding a rebuildable set of stock carbs is the easiest path forward. It’s an easy process to take a set of carbs, strip them down, soak in carb dip, and then reassemble with an O-ring kit from cycleorings.com. Even if you find some used carbs somewhere you should rebuild them since all the various O-rings are sure to be hard and brittle.

If you’ve never rebuilt a set of carbs before check the GSR homepage for a nice tutorial which will lead you though the process. It’s not hard, just requires you to be detail oriented. Most newbies doing their first carb job short cut the process and then have problems later; short cuts are long cuts when it comes to carb rebuilding.
 
If you decide to go the RS Flatslide route, go with 36mm. I bought the 34's and wish I would have gone with the 36's. More "umph" for the money and the motor can definitely handle it. RS36-D3-K with spacing 77-93-77

Used go for around $400. New between $750-800. Set it up with a 4-1 pipe and K&N pods. A Pingel petcock will allow better fuel flow then the OEM also.
