A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I am tring to sinc. the carbs. on my 80 1100E and need a little advise. For the longest time I thought you sinc. the carbs by adjusting the fuel mixture screw but realized that is wrong. There are 3 screws that are held tight with a lock nut. From what I figure this is where you adjust your carb sinc. My problem is that there are only 3 screws for 4 carbs. I am useing a Motrion Pro Mercury Sinc. tool. Carbs 1, 3 and 4 are close to each other but 2 is way off. I have tried to adjust it but is dose not seam to move with out effecting the entire Carb rack. I read somewhere that some carb. racks have 1 of the carbs set and you adjust the rest to match it. I could really use some advise on this matter as I work on adjusting my new stage 3 jet kit and new pods.

Thanks

#3 is the reference, and therefore has no adjustment. Making a change to #2 will affect the others. There's the balancing act.

Using the merc stick, you want to set a pattern with #1 & 4 equal but higher than #2 & 3. As a simple graphic, your sync results should look like this:

1......4
_ 2 3 _
_ _ _ _
_ _ _ _
_ _ _ _
_ _ _ _
_ _ _ _

I need to synch my bike also and I have some novice questions: Why do you set 2,3 lower than 1,4? How much lower? Is there a problem if I just set them all the same? Thanks.

I have heard different stories on WHY they are set different. One story says that it is to compensate for the crossover tube in the exhaust system. Problem is that not all bikes have that tube. Another story is that with the slightly different setting, the two center cylinders will run just a bit cooler. Since they are in the middle, they don't have as much cooling air flowing around them, so it's plausible. I have also heard that you should set them all the same if you are running a 4-into-1 exhaust system.

If you are using the official Suzuki gauge with the steel balls, the manual calls for 1/2 ball difference. I have never seen this gauge to see how big the balls are, but others on this board say the difference should be about 1/2 cm if you are using mercury sticks.

Will you have any problems if they are all the same? Probably not. I have done that for years. On the other hand, if I were to set them different, it might be better. 8-[

Just remember that carb sync is the LAST thing to do in your routine maintenance.
Check valve clearance and ignition timing first, then do the carbs.

There's no screw on #3 because you're supposed to match the other carbs to that one.

I just did a sync last week. I start with #1 and try and get #1 and #2 the same. I then go to #4 and try to get #4 to be about the average of the other 3. Repeat the process several times. If you find that the RPMs are too high or too low, reach back and adjust the main idle speed screw behind the carbs. You want your RPMs to be around 1500 to 2000.

Adjustments are very small, like 1/16 of a turn. Keep your eye on the sticks while you gently turn the screw.

Do you have an adjustment tool? Basically a super long hollow socket with a flat screw driver coming through it. This makes the job alot easier.

Oh and don't forget to plug the vacuum nipple on the #2 carb or your readings will be way off.
