A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Carb switch on a GS425

Hiya folks,

I got some carbs from a parts lot that were reportedly on an '81 GS450. The spacing is the same on my bike. They have they idle adjustment knob toward the bottom and are a pull only cable setup. My current carbs are push/pull. Would it work or even be advisable to switch them out and just eliminate the push cable on my throttle tube? I'd like to switch them out because the "new" carbs seem in better shape and the idle adjuster seems much easier to work with. Thanks

If they line up etc. then they should be fine.

The push/pull vs. just pull won't matter as that relates directly to the throttle linkage setup on the carbs themselves.

The only thing I can think is that you'll want to verify the jetting although only 25cc's difference shouldn't make too much of a drastic difference I would think... possibly just a little on the rich side?

Thanks Pete, I'm going to give it a try. Had some more issues with fuel delivery today (I think) so I'm willing to try anything. :/

What's the problem you're experiencing? And definitely let us know how the swap goes.

Well Pete, I can't get the idle set properly and have to give it a lil bit of throttle just to sit at a light, and then yesterday it is "surging" for lack of a better term, no power from a stop and then a bunch, then "bucking" and then just finally died out on me. Oh, and I got a weird chirp noise at idle seemingly from the left side, gonna check the clutch adjustment.

Doesn't sound like much fun! Made sure your airbox is all sealed up and filter has been cleaned and oiled properly?

It almost sounds like a more serious version of what mine gets like in traffic... mine's rich, bogs off idle at small throttle openings, and holding at 1/8 - 1/4 throttle at the speed limit tends to produce some surging...

Well crap, that didnt work. Spacimg was WAY off... Gotta get the peepers checked and keep searching for the problem...
