A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

AFR--Air-Fuel-Ratio

What he said :)

AFR? And which are the "idle mixture screws" that I read about on the highest idle page? Are they the pilot screws?

Thanks BTW! I think I have worked out why my bike was so sluggish after carb synching today - I suspect that the revving was too slow to recharge the battery. So the battery is on the charger again tonight.

I'm not sure on your carbs but my carbs only have one adjustment screw which is the mixture screw and adjusts how much fuel mixes in at idle. I know there are 4 cylinder carbs like this, but there are also some that have an air screw and a mixture screw...

I would think the "pilot" screws are like my mixture screw...

Hopefully you're on the money with the battery, if she spent most that time at idle then there'll be little to no charging typically...

Well on my bike the "pilot" screws are the ones on top of the bit that feeds into the engine. They are the only screws that aren't just screwed into place - you screw them down and back them out 2 1/2 turns. So I would assume that these are the mixture screws. In the tutorial it says that these may be screwed out a max of 4 turns if the engine is not good off idle.

When my bike is running it revs really well with no hesitation and there is no gurgling or popping on deceleration. When it's running!

That sounds like mixture screws to me, although your manual will set you straight in that regard ;)

My bike gurgles and pops on deceleration... it also bogs off idle... I have some carb tuning to do yet :o

Thanks Pete. BTW pretty sure it was the battery that was the problem. It seems to take forever to recharge. Once it runs again I will try the mixture screw adjustment.

Cool.

You sure your charging system's up to scratch?

I'm pretty sure the bike's charging system is working. It's the bloody battery charger that Shorai sell with the battery that takes forever. When I get a chance to ride the bike the battery is well charged afterwards. I did change the R/R and stator for better versions and they appear to work very well.

BTW sorry for the threadjacking!

Cool, figured it was worth a mention :)

Now back to our scheduled programme... haha

Today I even used another little lithium battery I have to run the bike because the Shorai is still charging. I had already bought this other battery off ebay before I found out about Shorai. Hopefully the Shorai will be charged by tomorrow morning so I can install it before I go for the rego inspection.
