    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Carb T-piece fix

Better than leaking gas if you were stranded somewhere but a more permanent fix would be to get a new Tee.
 
The Tee parts for my '82 1100g carbs don't appear to have removable O-rings; it looks as if the Tee is just molded to have an interference fit.

I'm at work and can't follow the link - is that about modifying the molded Tee, or do some GS bikes have Tees with O-rings?
 
The article was about a Yamaha XS11 carb, the tee piece looks similar to the GS1000 but maybe in this case it's different and has o-rings. If the GS1000 is one piece moulded that explains the leaks! and I shall get a metal one with o-rings
 
Ordered a set from Robert and the manifold gaskets, that's a good product at a good price!
 
I bought a full carb gasket kit on ebay but while the jumpers between carb 1-2 and 3-4 had replacable O rings my fuel tee was a one piece molded design. It doesnt leak after reassembling but I would like to find a new T and replace it the next time I have the carbs out.

EDIT..call them and have some measurements handy particularly the length from the end of the tee to the thicker center parts shoulder and the distance from shoulder to shoulder on the fat part. This will give them some solid info to work with. They would probably ask you if you know these things anyway.

Just had my carbs apart, seems my T-piece is also of the type with a fixed moulded rubber sleeve, seems to fit very snugly though so that can't be the part that leaks. I think the problem is with the other 2 pieces which have removable o-rings and don't fit so well. So I off to source 8 small o-rings, I have ordered some from Robert but they haven't arrived yet and I'm impatient. In the meanwhile I found that the diaphrams were all gunged up. I could have probably have got away with cleaning them, but around the edges they had started to wear so I've ordered a set of new rubbers. The parts list lists this part as a one piece item with the slide (a set would cost 260 euros!) whereas the diaphragms I have bought are separate pieces which require cutting the plastic part on the top of the slide (still cost 90 euros!). Has anyone had experience of these, any fitting tips?
 
Just a note on the XS11 T-piece page, the guy there has cut the ridges off a one piece rubber t-piece so that he can then fit o-rings. A bit drastic, but there are some old t-pieces kncking around on ebay. I will try to get a second hand t-piece to try this mod on.

I was about to post this -- I know some people have done this successfully.

The one-piece tee is a metal piece with a rubber coating. Carefully cut off the raised "o-ring" parts off the one-piece tee's coating with an Xacto knife, leaving grooves in the rubber, then replace them with real o-rings (no idea what the correct measurements are -- you'll need calipers to make accurate measurements). You do need to make sure the remaining rubber coating bits are firmly attached to the metal underneath.

I recently made a Tee for a set of Keihin's. A fun project using a borrowed lathe. Too much work though - took 2.5 hours. New Tee should outlive the bike though, which is something that can't be said of the stock piece.
