Carburator Syncronzation

I have a 1979 GS1000E that my son picked up recently. We have been working on it to get it running. I am going to take the carbs apart to clean them but I'm need some detailed information on balancing them. Will the 4 round vacumm gauges (JC Whitney for $54.99) suffices for doing the balancing? Does anyone have a good write-up on the process> I have never done this before,

I'm sure the JC Whitney gauges will do just fine. If you don't mind a little mercury around the shop, the Motion Pro Economy synchronizer is only $45 and is very accurate.

I suggest getting a manual for your bike to detail the proceedure. Even a Clymer will walk you through it.

if your gonna spend the $$, either get a vacuum/mercury model, or better yet a morgan carbtune. Those 4 JCW guages are junk.

I bought the vacuum gauges you're looking at. You need to adjust the valves on the lines to keep the needles from bouncing, but once you get them set they work fine. I bought them because I don't want mercury around the house. My garage is too much of a mess, and I don't want to deal with a mercury spill.

Make sure you're valves are adjusted correctly before you synch your carbs as well.

Morgan's site will refer you to some sources. One is the ZR-7 site called zr-7.com where you will find a well illustrated and narrated procedure for synching a Kawasaki 750. You should be able to apply that to the Zook.
