A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Need to install a new spring for the 81 1100e...got any tips?
I heard somewhere about putting coins between the spring to expand to install.:)
Thanks

Trevor, sometimes it's easier to take out the two bolts that go thru the center stand & frame and install the spring first. Once the spring is installed, you should be able the muscle the center stand in place and put the bolts in.

IIRC, it's possible to stretch the spring too far with pennies and it will never hold the center stand up tight.

Yes just remove the stand , then install the spring, you can then easily bolt the stand back on. It only takes a little pressure to line them up.

Thanks guys...I think I will remove the stand then as it will give me an opportunity to give it a good cleaning.:)

I use my Brake Spring tool.. like this!

I use my Brake Spring tool.. like this!

I use a brake spring tool, like this vid shows... but if you don't have this tool, I have used a large (#3) phillips screwdriver too, to lever it on... but of course it's always nice to take it all off, clean and paint it !!

Motion Pro makes a nice spring puller tool.

(And please, don't tell me that you don't want to spend the money. There's a job to be done here, and that completely justifies spending the money on tool. To not want to spend the money on a tool, when you have a perfectly good excuse...I just don't know what to say...except please, turn in your man card, right now, before you embarrass us further...) :)

Step 1: Call your friends and family and let them know your where abouts, make sure they know what you will be doing and how long it should take
Step 2: Call your health insurance provider and make sure your policy is up to date
Step 3: Have several shop rags ready to soak up any bodily fluids
Step 4: Vacate any children that might hear your profanity
Step 5: Say a little prayer to whomever your higher power is
Step 6: Grab a screw driver and (hopefully) pry that baby in!

In all seriousness its much easier to just take the stand off.. but I think most of us here have managed to draw blood from this once or twice..

Not here, it isn't as hard to reinstall it as it seems. Very simple in fact. It has been posted in a thread here before not that long ago.
