If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Sorry I realized my first post wasn't very informative. Leak is from oil filter area.

Long story short I changed main jets and from this change an oil leak now occurs. Oil only leaks when engine is running. Not a drop when it's not running.

OK, trying to get a few facts straight here, so I am paraphrasing, not quoting directly.

Installed K&N pods, ran rich with 105 mains.
I think the stock jets were 100 and you should go up 2-4 sizes with pods, so I don't think it should have been running rich.

I just put in 117.5s.
It was already running rich, so you went up another five jet sizes? :-k

I adjusted idle and she sounded good.
Sorry, means nothing. You can remove the main jet or even plug it up, the bike will still IDLE just fine.

Then I noticed oil on the ground.
Changing carb jetting won't affect that at all.

Gas in the oil?
Only if one of your carbs overflowed and the overflow tube was plugged.

.

How about disregard the history and pay attention to my issue at hand

I suspect the oil is comming from the oil filter cover..yes? There is that oring in the cover and there is a copper crush washer on the sump drain plug.

I think your Oring is bad or possibly got slightly pinched and cut upon reinstalling the cover.

EDIT... I put a little Three Bond 1194 in the cover groove after a good cleaning. This holds the oring in the groove all the way around so it doesnt fall out and get pinched.

Thanks, you provided no advice!
I was just trying to make sure which problem you were trying to solve.
With a little more information, advice can be given.

Your ONLY questions were "Any advice? Gas in the oil?". Even you will have to admit that they were rather vague.
And I did offer a suggestion on the second one. :p

How about disregard the history and pay attention to my issue at hand
History was provided, so a reasonable person would assume that it was there for a reason.

The running rich part was irrelevant to this story.
Then why was it mentioned?

Steve wasn't offering any advice just yet, we are trying to figure out what your story is.
Thanks, Mrbill.

Don't mind Steve - he's being funny.
For once, I was trying to be dead serious, I was just trying to make sure I had the facts straight.

Evidently the facts don't matter, so I am outta here. :-\\\

ps. I think I remember trying to deal with the OP before, with similar results. I should have learned then.

And Steve, nothing you said made it seem like you were addressing my issue. More like pointing out how my post was riddled with irrelevance. I'll edit the post now.

I will totally admit to my first post being vague and uninformative. First morning fog and grouchiness.

I know that's why I'm so confused. I put well over 150 miles since I replaced filter and I touch the carbs and this happens. Just don't want to start her up to tune carbs.

Oil leak at filter?

Did you try checking the torque on the 3 acorn nuts?

Does your bike have an oil drain in the filter cover?

You're still not giving is much to work with here

Sorry it happened last week and I couldn't tell exactly where the leak is coming from.

I would remove the cover and catch any oil in a clean bowl to put back in the motor after re-seating the cover. It's real easy to screw up the oil filter cover O-ring. I daub dielectric grease in the groove and then press in the O-ring. It stays in when you seat the cover that way and lasts through several oil changes if you happen to get a filter missing the O-ring. The nuts just need to be good and snug. They are easy to wring off, so a small 1/4" ratchet on the 10MM cap nut with one finger on the handle would tighten them nicely.

Just get the jet change out of your mind. Nothing done in or around the carbs will cause an oil leak. It's just a coincidence that the leak started after you fiddled with the carbs.

Either the seal went bad and/or the filter cover came loose. Where is the oil pressure sensor located on a 79 750? Is it located on the filter cover? If so, check that they go bad as well and will seep oil. The one on my 80 750 did.
