DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Charging System Gremlins

It's hard to tell from these pics, but which lead does the red go to and which lead does the ground go to?
I forgot where I saw the diagram, but it's easy to remember if you simply think about the power output wire being closer to the power input. :o

Hey Steve, maybe you should be the new R/R supplier around here.:dancing: And you can call them "Honda" units, and not be fibbing.;)
Thanks, but no thanks.

I am not home enough to take on anything like that, as I would insist on testing them before sending them out. :o

Well maybe I'll do it then. Just bought that $25 R/R you linked.:D

I tried hooking up the new (to me) R/R tonight without success. Here's the deal:

It has six spade connections. Three are inside a black female connector and three are inside a gray female connector. Gray on the left, black on the right.

I tried hooking up the three wires that go to the stator to the three spade connectors inside the gray female connector. I then ran the red wire that goes through an inline fuse to the battey positive terminal to the left most spade inside the black female connector (closest to the gray female connector). I ran the negative wire that goes to the battery negative terminal to the middle spade inside the black female connector.

Started the bike and it wasn't charging. I'm guessing that the left over spade is for a sense wire, but I'm not sure which one it is. Could sure use some help here. Here's the one I bought again:

Thanks,

ok, what size fuse do I need inline between the red wire and positive battery terminal? I only had a 10 amp fuse available and it blew. Do I need a 15 amp fuse, or bigger?

edit: I just read above that I need a 25 to 30 amp fuse. I'll have to stop and pick one up tomorrow.

Popped a 30 amp fuse in there tonight and fired it up. She's charging at a steady 13.83 volts. Coolness!

Glad you figured it out.

I downloaded the Honda service manual for the bike that R/R came from and Honda didn't hook up that center spade either. I wonder what it's for? My guess is it's a redundant power feed or ground. I don't think it's a sense wire.

As I have mentioned in other R/R threads, I have tried connecting that center terminal to + and - terminals on the battery, with no difference in the output.

Oops, forgot about that Steve. So it can't be power or ground. I have no idea.

I misstyped before. It's charging at a steady 13.97 volts. Even better.

For those interested in knowing, this R/R lined up and bolted perfectly to the tapped holes in the bottom of the battery box. Looks like it was meant to be there.

:dancing: Everything is back together and ready for the triple nickle!
