A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My new to me 1979 Suzuki gs850g will more than likely need a carburetor cleaning to get it on the road. I looked at the intake carb boots and they seem hard as a rock so I think replacement will be in order. I've checked eBay and I see the boots for 100.00 and other sources anywhere from 10.00 to 40.00 each (I will need 4). I have seen unstretchable for other bikes using hoses cut down and clamped.

What is my cheapest option for replacement?

Thanks

Sean

Nothing will work as good as OEM replacement. Bite the bullet and do it. You wont regret it.

Where did you see new boots for $10? If they still have them, get them.

Otherwise, bite the bullet and get true OEM boots.

Boulevard Suzuki is usually among the cheapest, they are just about $30 each.

will universal parts fit ?

will universal parts fit ?

The $10.00 flange/boot I mentioned is a universal part for Mikuni VM26 - VM28 mm Carburetors but is listed for a snowmobile.

Does anyone know whether a universal part would be likely to fit a 1979 suzuki gs850g ?

Where are you seeing those $10.00 boots? I'd like to risk $40.00 on the chance!

Likely not. Especially without seeing/measuring them.

Does anyone have the measurements for the actual OEM carburetor boots ?
